Session Summary – Root and Branch (Gascar)
Title: Whispers in the Fog
Rowan, Guardian of the Wilds, arrived in Gascar at dusk, weary after a long journey through rain and fog. The village was unsettled: unnatural mists clung to the land, morale was low, and the people lived in fear.
At the House of Fate, Rowan met Sylvie Perrault, who welcomed him warmly with tea and food. She explained the disappearances of three villagers in the past week:
- Pierre Vercher – outsider hunter, brash and disrespectful toward the Wilds, vanished from the inn.
- Anais Bordeaux – elderly diviner, eccentric but curious, disappeared after venturing into the fog.
- Elodie Laval – 18-year-old daughter of shopkeeper Guillaume, and voice for her deaf sister Louise, vanished alongside Anais.
The villagers whisper about the Root and Branch Monster, though its form is uncertain: some describe a serpent of vines, others a stag with root-antlers, still others claim the trees themselves move in the mist.
Rowan noted eerie signs: silence of birds and insects, the groaning of wood without wind, and the oppressive fog coinciding with Pierre’s arrival. He recorded these in his journal.
After speaking with Sylvie, Rowan chose to head to the Yawning Mastiff Inn, reasoning that in the evening villagers might speak more freely over ale. There, he expects to meet Baptiste the innkeeper and perhaps others— threads that may soon weave in the Archivist and Fixer companions he seeks.
