Thay is a seaport at the mouth of the Horka River and it is the largest settlement in the Kingdom of Melderyn's lands on the Hârnic mainland. As an important seaport and the terminus of a major overland trade route, Thay dominates the economy of northern Melderyn. It was founded less that two centuries ago by refugees from Aleath [E8] and is notable as the home of the leaders of the churches of Larani and Peoni, the two most popular religions on Hârn. Thay is the most independent of Hârn’s three freetowns. Its mayor and aldermen govern with little interference from the king. The town has withstood two raids from Ivinian pirates in the last 15 years. Because of its origins, Thay has many similarities to Aleath.

RELIGION

The Hârnic primates for the Church of Larani and Church of Peoni reside in Thay. Both churches are favored with tax-exempt status and enjoy frequent endowments from wealthy  guildsmen and nobles. Each spring, pilgrims travel from far and wide to celebrate the Peonian Restoration Festival with the primate.

The Order of the Hyn-Aelori maintains a temple to Save K'Nor that is famous for its extensive archives.

Although Sarajinians are fairly unpopular in Thay since the Orbaalese attack in 705, Clan Yebaaling maintains a temple for a small immigrant community and visitors of that faith.

The worship of Halea is less popular in Thay than in any other Hârnic town, an enmity dating back to the Agony of Aleath. The temple is run by the Order of the Silken Voice.

Thay’s small Ilviran community has no temple. Adherents quietly meet and worship in their homes or those of their leaders.

As in the rest of Melderyn, the worship of Agrik, Morgath, or Naveh is punishable by death. Worship of Siem is all but unknown.
