Nuzyael is the first month of the year. It equals March and is the first month of the spring season. It is named after Yael, the moon. As the earth thaws, villagers begin plowing and planting. Early fishing begins as rivers warm, and women gather herbs. Farmers believe “seed spirits” need to be honored for a healthy yield, and songs are sung to bless each type of seed.
