Hideworker

Hideworkers cure all types of hides, including furs, and work leather. Tanneries tend to be located on the downwind outskirts of towns because of the stench of urine used in the tanning process. Some clans manufacture leather goods such as whips, waterskins, and belts; many are cobblers producing leather footwear. Leather goods involving horses are produced by ostlers. Hideworkers usually purchase raw or partially treated pelts and hides from trappers, seal hunters, and rural clans. Prices paid for untreated hides are about 50% of the normal amounts.
