Session 030 On to Ulfshafen

January 13, 2025
  • Morning, the sun is just rising. Askelon pulls the party to side and explains his conversation with Captain Tenali Halirien. The party discusses the options. They are one hour away from the pier and the island in the Kald River where the Nithra Dante will escort them into Evael. Word has already been sent for a boat to take them to Ulfshafen. Askelon tells them that Ulfshafen is really two parts. The port is on the Jarin, or Human, side of the island where Caer Ulfshafen sits. The main part, the Sindarin part, is on the south side of the river, across a magnificent bridge that connects to the island. Caer Ulfshafen occupies the western half of the island, and entry to the caer, and access to the bridge, is strictly controlled by the King's Guard.
  • He tells them that they would be accepted in the Jarin side of Ulfshafen, even the Khuzdul. He also reminded them that they absolutely must hide their Morgathian and Navehan connections. Hjalgrimm asked if his sword could be detected inside the Bag of Holding, and they all agreed that it would not. The party agreed to store their concerning items in the Bag of Holding when necessary.
  • The party travels to the pier on the Kald River. On the way to the shore, Rook starts looking for something to make a fishing pole with. The lieutenant notices and offers to help. He finds a sapling that is suitable and helps Rook craft a fishing pole. Once at the river, It takes two trips to get everyone and the mounts to the isle. The Sindarin move them to the isle on a flat barge. They gather at the central camp site. Rook goes to the pier and he and the lieutenant go fishing. They find that Faelon has joined them, having grabbed a pole at the camp. The three of them catch several large fish and a few medium sized fish. As they finish fishing, a beautiful Sindarin ship pulls up to the pier.
  • The party is assembled and ushered onto the ship. They are told that their mounts will be well taken care of.
  • By sunset the ship is pulling into the port of Ulfshafen. When the party disembarks they are met by a crowd singing a song in Sindarin. Weyliri tells the party that this is song of greeting and return. After the song ends there are many hugs. The party is escorted to The Homeward Sail. They are told they have a private group room on the upper floor. They are told that they have a bath prepared, as well as food and drink. As the rest of the group settles in, Askelon excuses himself and leaves for the caer.
  • Hjalgrimm is approached by Ranael, the proprietor of the Homeward Sail. He is a rather accomplished brewer, and is eager to get the rare Khuzan visitor's opinion on his beers. Ranael brings out two large mugs, one brimming with a light, heady beer, and the other with a darker, pleasantly bitter ale. Both are excellent, but neither travels well. Hjalgrimm gulps each down in a gulp each and declares them to be reasonably good brews. Ranael also produces very good fruit wine and brandy for any others who wish to partake. Hjalgrimm them asks Ranael if he'd like to taste a real Khuzdul brew - the innkeeper is momentarily stunned, then says "Yes, certainly!" Ranael urges to Hjalgrimm to follow him into his brewery, and the two eagerly head that way. In the brewery, Hjalgrimm opens his Bag of Holding and pulls out the barrel of Khuzan Ale. He taps a mug for Ranael and himself, and they toast. Ranael takes much more time to enjoy and analyze his drink. He is amazed and asks if he may have another. The Dwarf nods and pours another. This time Ranael pours the brew gently into a dark glass container, corks it, and seals the cork. He smiles and sets it on the counter. "I plan to get educated by this elixir! Thank you sir!" The keg is put away, and the two return to the main room.

14 NOLUS (June) SUMMER, 721 TR

Nolus 13
We start by waking up from a long rest
Nolus 14
About a full days travel south of here is a camp Zarok, the one we saw in studded leather on the horse earlier was probably their chieftain. Askelon gathers the party together and he let's us know that the Nithra Dante observed us a great deal before making theirselves known. He tells us that they observed Hjallgrimms sword was very evil, that Rook appeared Fey, and that Faelon appeared fiend.

Rook admits to the group that he doesn't not know what Fey is (which is true to him). Weyliri talks to Rook about how Fey could possibly present including. Rook avoids the more prying and is able redirect the conversation away and back to Faelon who appears Fiend.

We pack up and head out. We reach the mouth of the river and call over the ferry which brings us to the middle island which we then will be able to take a ship to Ulfshafen. We do a bit of fishing while waiting for the ferry to arrive. While we are fishing Hjallgrimm talks to askelon about the placing his sword in the bag of holding to see if it can still be seen as evil.

We get onto the boat and head to Ulfshafen sailing down the river. We arrive to Ulfshafen seeing the dwarven built castle. We head to a local tavern. Rhyna begins singing and Rook plays his ocarina and we both do very well. The bar owner brings Hjallgrimm two beers for him to try as a dwarf.

Askelon heads off to talk to his brothers and comes back to the tavern. He tells us that his brother wants to meet with us tomorrow.

We head off to bed in the tavern
