Evening, Larane 8. Denneth and Bish have entered Daquinasel through the southern gate. The rest of the party is at the gate, with Hjalgrimm ready to step in.
None of you have been here before, so the guard describes the entry process. There is a Zone of Truth and a Zone of Detect Good/Evil. They basically screen for spies and devilkind. They've had problems with them trying to infiltrate in the past.
The party asks about the displaced Gargun, and a local guard offered to escort them to a nearby enclave of banished orcs who might provide refuge. The Gargun agreed to future contact, and the party learned that their new allies had been rejected from the city but could still find shelter nearby.
As each character enters, they are asked question:
○ Do you consent to the Zone of Truth
○ What is your name
○ Where are you from
○ Why are you coming to Daquinasel
○ How long do you plan to stay
○ Are you a Devil, Demon, Daemon, or Fiend
○ Are you affiliated with a Religion
○ Do you intend to engage in mercantyle exchange here
○ Do you have any magical containers
They are asked to empty magical containers to check for smuggling. The party basically says they're hear for up to ten days, exploring, don't plan to stay.
Tenktovie was directed toward the local Save K'noran church, while the shape-shifting Fey Rook received a referral to someone who could help investigate that ability (Ambassador Fireva Tavre). The guards inspected Hjalgrimm’s bag of holding and suggested that Saffron Sabre’s alchemist shop might pay well for the party’s harvested monster parts, silk, potions, and other materials. The guards are surprised by Escorsen, but explain that so long as he behaves he is welcome. Escorsen promises to behave, even stay in his reliquary.
The guards explained Daquinasel’s independent currency and economic rules: a DAC equals a gold piece, a quin equals silver, and a selpence equals copper. Visitors can exchange foreign money through businesses or the bank, while citizens are prohibited from privately accepting foreign currency because of past attempts to buy political control of the free city-state. The party can trade foreign coin for Daqs at the Bank or the Mint, and can spend up to 100gp/day in local shops. The city orientation covered districts: Protectors Quarter, Badh Taureth, The Piers, Pwyll's Pride, Riverside, the Resting Place, Kerekhazad, the Conclave, The Steadings, and The Aeries. The Conclave has the temples, embassies, and government buildings. The museum if right here, and we recommend you check it out first thing. There are several inns, Wetwhistle Tavern on the water in The Piers is rowdy, Gabilgathol Zirak (Glorystead Inn) in Kerekhazad is comfortable and stern, The Crimson Dagger in the Conclave is lively and has good entertainment, Boccob's Rest in Pwyll's Pride is comfortable and favored by merchants, Terrapin Station Tavern in The Steadings is boisterous with great food and ale, and Celebsael Noe (Silvershaft Inn) in Badh Taureth is serene and very posh.
Faelon asks about the bamboo and learns that it was brought here and planted by one of the New Protectors, a Diramoan monk name Tao Lin. Tao Lin founded the Monastery here on the Piers, and has not been seen for about 80 years. He taught the locals how to eat it, use it for building materials, make textile from it, make weapons from it, and make flutes from it.
Askelon was referred to the Phoenix Quill because of his heraldic symbol and recognized that the name Tavre is the clan name of his great aunt Gwydriel Tavre, who founded the Morsindar. Hjalgrimm received an invitation to breakfast at the Miners Guild House in Kerekhezad, where he plan to seek mountain knowledge and investigate possible family connections.
As the party moves through the streets they notice that the stones of the streets are not as solid as most stone, and appear to be a mixture of that hempcrete used for a lot of the walls.
The party chose the relaxed Boccob’s Rest for the night, paying three gold for lodging, food, and drinks. They decide to stay in the big party room upstairs. The food and drink is excellent and fresh. The tavern also contains shelves full of books. Tenktovie studied religious texts linking Boccob and Zagyg to aspects of Save K'nor. The party finds a corner nook with observation seating with a complex three-tiered Dragonchess board, which is a notable curiosity. Rook explored and found the closed Navehan temple and the city’s unusual continual-flame street lighting and hemp-based construction. Askelon transcribed Gaseous Form in his room.
