The Mists is a sprawling land populated by a hardy population. It is led by Queen Ravenna, a merciless and exacting ruler.
Before Ravenna, it was ruled by Queen Blanche, and King Walter. Unable to have children of their own, they instead channeled their parental feelings into making the kingdom strong.
Then Father Light and Mother Night smiled upon them, and the queen became pregnant with their first child, a girl they named Snow.
Sadly, 7 years later, tragedy struck, and the Queen was killed in a riding accident. Unprepared to raise a child alone, after an acceptable mourning period, King Walter began to seek suitors. To be certain that he found the right mate, he devised exacting tests for them.
Ravenna proved to be a princess of the highest quality, and soon they were wed. Again, tragedy struck. The apple of the king's eye, his beautiful daughter Snow disappeared.
Soon after, a humble woodsman brought the King her bloodstained and tattered ermine cape.
Grief stricken, the King withered and died, leaving his young bride to rule alone.
Ravenna holds the kingdom's magic in tight control, denying the peasants even a little of the fertile magic the land is known for.
