The Orphans
1. Saphira “Saffy” Stormscale (Blue Dragonborn, 8)
A wiry little dragonborn girl with bright cobalt scales and wide, curious golden eyes. Saffy is always testing her limits—climbing rafters, sneaking sweets, daring others into trouble. She has a sharp tongue but a big heart, often protecting younger children with a fierce, lightning-hot temper.
2. Caw (Kenku, 5)
A tiny, round-shouldered kenku boy with glossy black feathers and oversized eyes. Too young to mimic speech properly, he repeats words in broken echoes, often in mismatched voices he’s overheard. He clutches a ragged stuffed doll and follows the older kids like a shadow.
3. Bruni Ironfist Jr. (Dwarf, 10)
A stocky boy with tangled brown hair and the beginnings of a scruffy beard he’s terribly proud of. Bruni is stubborn and loud, always boasting that he’ll one day be a famous warrior. Despite his bluster, he secretly fears the dark and always insists on a candle at night.
4. Korga Ashmark (Hobgoblin, 9)
A tall-for-her-age girl with sharp features and reddish-brown skin. Korga is disciplined and quiet, often corralling the younger children into line during chores. She rarely laughs, but when she does, it’s sudden and contagious. She dreams of proving that hobgoblins can be honorable protectors.
5. Pip and Pippa Tinkerwhistle (Gnome Twins, 6)
Identical twins with wild auburn curls, smudged cheeks, and boundless energy. Pip is a boy with a mischievous grin who hides frogs in people’s shoes; Pippa, his sister, is just as mischievous but feigns innocence with big, doe-like eyes. Together, they are inseparable whirlwinds of chaos.
6. Darrin Holt (Human, 13)
A lanky boy with messy black hair, pale skin, and an air of restless defiance. He tries to act older than he is, sneaking off, mouthing off, and picking fights. Beneath the bravado, though, he’s protective of the younger orphans and secretly writes poems in a tattered notebook.
7. Elira Dawnwind (Half-Elf, 14)
A graceful girl with chestnut hair and pointed ears, caught awkwardly between adolescence and adulthood. Elira acts as a “big sister” to the others, braiding hair, breaking up squabbles, and comforting the little ones. Still, she longs for her own freedom and often stares out the window at night, dreaming of adventure.
8. Toby Thompkins (Halfling, 10)
A chubby boy with bright red freckles. He is always hungry and looking for treats.
9. Amos Cherryblossom (Halfling, 12)
An unusually thin Halfling boy. He has a scar peaking up from his neck that he doesn’t discuss. Brown hair and dark skin.
