The sewer system is a labyrinth of tunnels and pipes that lies beneath the streets of Lygos, unseen yet indispensable. Designed to handle the waste of the vast city, it channels refuse and stormwater away from the urban core and deposits it safely into the Whitespray via hidden caves in the cliffside.
- Construction and Layout: The sewers are made of stone and brick, with wide main tunnels that allow maintenance crews to access and clean them. Smaller pipes branch off to connect individual buildings and streets to the central system.
- Cave Outlets: The sewers empty into underground caves along the cliffs overlooking the Whitespray. These natural formations, enhanced by engineering, allow waste to flow out into the ocean, where strong currents carry it away from the city. Grates and magical wards at the outlets prevent larger debris and hazardous materials from polluting the water.
- Ventilation and Maintenance: Ventilation shafts throughout the city prevent foul air from accumulating in the tunnels. Maintenance is overseen by the Sanitation Commission, led by Rumblechuck, a stooped but sharp-witted old human who knows the sewers like the back of his hand.
