Geography of the Lake of Steam:
The Arnrock is a volcanic island in the lake of steam. It is home to a loose coalition of goblins. It is from this home that Grimeye and his fleet launch their attacks. Although, Grimeye and his troops live at sea most of the time, raiding towns along the coast of the Lake of Steam for supplies and riches. Any time players set sail in the Lake of Steam there is a chance they may come across the goblin fleet. Their best hope is to encounter a lone scouting ship rather than the main armada.
There is a smaller island in the western part of the Lake of Steam called Talos' Fist by sailors. It is thought to be uninhabited because of the heavy ashfall from it's volcano. However, it is home to many creatures who thrive in extreme temperatures. The largest group is a tribe of Fire Giants, who mostly live in caves around the volcano. There is a race of fire newts who also live there. The giants and newts coexist in a symbiotic relationship. The giants don't bother the newts and the newts eat smaller animals that would be pests. The newts have learned to avoid the giants when they're angry and most of the time the giants view them as amusing curiosities.
Talos' Fist is where the character Aymon the Brute originated from, although he was banished years ago for stealing from the tribe.
Desperate pirates will sometimes dock at Talos' Fist to avoid pursuit or make repairs. However, they mustn't bring trouble and must pay tribute to the Fire Giants or their ship will be destroyed. If players reconcile Aymon with his family, he will promise them safe harbor whenever they need it. The giants will not tolerate any of Grimeye's fleet because he insulted them years ago.
The pirates have an uneasy relationship with Grimeye. His fleet will mostly leave pirates alone, although occassionally they will capture a ship and force its crew to join their ranks. The pirates have accepted that a bribe now and then will keep Grimeye off their back. They also will avoid a merchant ship if the goblins are already pursuing it.
Most of the pirates will choose to stay neutral in the siege of Lygos, but enough gold might convince them to fight for one side or the other.
