Pigswill

Berserker

Pigswill is a hulking Ogre enslaved by the Orc warlord Mal Korash, chained and forced to serve as a living weapon and laborer in the orc’s war efforts. Despite his brutish exterior, Pigswill is a tragic figure who craves freedom and may become a valuable ally if rescued.

Appearance

Pigswill is a massive, lumbering ogre with mottled green-gray skin marred by scars and lash marks. His eyes, dull and glassy at first glance, hint at a glimmer of sadness and intelligence beneath his monstrous façade. He is often seen wearing crude iron shackles around his wrists and ankles, his chains rattling ominously as he moves. His tattered loincloth and heavy iron collar reinforce his role as a prisoner and tool of war.

Personality

Pigswill is initially seen as little more than a feral brute, snarling and following the orcs’ orders out of fear and pain. However, players who take the time to understand him will find a surprisingly gentle soul beneath the violence, one who despises the orcs for their cruelty but feels powerless to resist them.

Pigswill speaks in broken Common, often mixing in growls and grunts. He is not particularly clever, but his loyalty to those who show him kindness is unshakable.

Role in the Adventure

  • Enemy: When players first encounter Pigswill, he is likely to be used as a weapon by Mal Korash’s forces, smashing gates or hauling siege engines. Players may need to fight him as part of their efforts to defend Lygos.

  • Potential Ally: If players infiltrate the orc camp and learn of Pigswill’s plight, they can attempt to free him. This may involve breaking his chains, defeating his handlers, or convincing him that they mean no harm.

  • Game-Changing Support: As an ally, Pigswill offers immense strength and durability, whether smashing through obstacles, carrying heavy loads, or intimidating enemies.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Strengths: Pigswill’s immense size and strength make him a devastating force in combat or heavy labor. His natural regeneration ability gives him incredible resilience.

  • Weaknesses: Pigswill is slow and not particularly intelligent, often needing clear direction. His past enslavement has left him with lingering fear and mistrust, which players must overcome to earn his loyalty.

Reputation

  • Among Orcs: To Mal Korash and his forces, Pigswill is a tool, nothing more. They abuse him mercilessly to ensure his obedience.

  • Among Players: Pigswill’s role as both an enemy and a potential ally presents a moral dilemma. Players who save him gain a powerful companion and insight into the orcs’ cruelty.

  • Among Citizens of Lygos: If Pigswill aids in the defense of Lygos, he may face mistrust and fear due to his monstrous nature, but his actions could help change perceptions.

Sample Dialogue

  • “Pigswill smash... because orcs say. But... Pigswill no like orcs.”

  • “You... help Pigswill? No more chains?”

  • “Orcs bad... but Pigswill good, if you want.”

Pigswill adds layers of complexity to the conflict with Mal Korash’s forces, serving as both a formidable foe and a potential ally. His story offers players a chance to challenge their assumptions about monsters and explore themes of freedom, loyalty, and redemption.
