Species: Direwolf
Affiliation: Mal Korash’s Personal War Beast
Personality: Vicious, Unrelenting, Utterly Loyal
Appearance:
Rawhide is a towering, battle-scarred direwolf, easily the size of a small horse. His matted, black-and-gray fur is thick and coarse, streaked with dust and dried blood from countless battles. His eyes glow an eerie yellow, always watchful, always calculating. His massive fangs—stained with the flesh of both animals and men—can snap through bone like twigs.
His ragged ears twitch constantly, catching even the slightest sound of movement, and his heavy paws make little noise despite his size, a silent predator even in the middle of a bustling war camp.
Personality & Behavior:
Rawhide is more than just an animal—he is a force of terror, a shadow of Mal Korash’s will.
- Utterly Loyal: He obeys no one but Mal Korash—not even the orcs in the warlord’s horde dare give him commands.
- Territorial & Deadly: He freely roams the war camp, taking what he pleases, killing what he pleases. None interfere.
- Unwavering Sentinel: At night, Rawhide guards Mal’s tent, ensuring no one—friend or foe—gets too close without facing his razor-sharp teeth.
- Instinctively Suspicious: He has an uncanny ability to sense fear, deception, and magic, making sneaking past him an incredibly difficult challenge.
Role in Gameplay:
- Inevitable Challenge: Players entering the orc war camp will eventually cross paths with Rawhide—whether as an obstacle, a looming threat, or an active hunter.
- Guardian of Mal Korash: If players attempt to sneak into Mal’s tent, they must contend with Rawhide’s keen senses and aggressive nature.
- Unstoppable Hunter: If angered or unleashed, Rawhide will track intruders tirelessly, able to follow a scent for miles.
Abilities & Traits:
- Keen Senses: Rawhide has advantage on all Perception checks, especially when detecting intruders or prey.
- Relentless Tracker: Once he picks up a scent, he does not stop until he finds his target.
- Terror of the Horde: Orcs know better than to interfere with Rawhide. If players try to use orcs as distractions, they will find no allies.
- Savage Takedown: If Rawhide successfully lands a pounce attack, he pins his target and can rip out their throat on the next turn.
Key Relationships:
- Mal Korash: The only being Rawhide respects or listens to. The warlord raised him from a pup, and their bond is absolute.
- The Orc Horde: They fear and respect Rawhide, knowing better than to approach him unless absolutely necessary.
Quotes (Growled, Snarled, or Silent in Action):
- Low, menacing growl… (His eyes lock onto you.)
- A wet, bone-cracking snap as he finishes his latest kill…
- The orcs don’t speak. They simply move aside as Rawhide prowls past.
