Elandor Veyren

Sculptor

Elandor Veyren

Elven Sculptor of the Royal Pediments
Male elf (High Elf), Neutral Good

Occupation: Royal Architectural Sculptor — designs and restores statues, pediments, and ornamental stonework across the palace exterior.
Age: 185
Appearance: Elandor is tall and thin, with hair like fine white silk bound back in a braid tied with copper thread (a nod to his wife). His hands are long and dusted with marble powder. He wears a dark blue smock spattered with plaster and carries a small chisel tucked into his belt like a weapon of pride.
Personality: Soft-spoken, philosophical, and prone to poetic flourishes. He has the soul of a perfectionist wrapped in the calm patience of an elf. Often caught gazing at the sky before returning to his work with renewed inspiration.
Mannerisms: Tilts his head when studying form or symmetry; unconsciously quotes poets while chiseling.

Role in the Palace

Elandor sculpts the great pediments, cornices, and statuary that crown the palace roofs and archways. His skill with detail — capturing life in stone — is unmatched in the capital. Some say his carved angels and gryphons breathe when moonlight touches them.

While Merrilda handles the interiors, Elandor oversees the exteriors, ensuring every vista of the palace tells a story of power and grace. His relationship with his wife is the city’s favorite artistic legend: “The Dwarf and the Elf who make stone sing.”

He calls her “my gravity,” and she calls him “my dreamer.” The city loves them both for it.

Personality Traits

  • Ideal: “Art should humble kings and uplift the commoner alike.”

  • Bond: “Every curve of stone is a note in a song only my chisel can play.”

  • Flaw: Prone to melancholy and self-doubt; secretly fears time will erode his work — or that Merrilda will outlast him, as dwarves often do.

The Copperveil–Veyren Household

The couple shares a studio home near the Royal Gardens — a workshop of radiant glass shards, half-finished statues, and gentle music. Apprentices and admirers are constantly coming and going. Barkley (from the Youngantlers’ neighborhood) occasionally wanders by for scraps.

Reputation in Lygos: The two are regarded as “the royal artisans who brought the palace to life.” Nobles commission miniature reproductions of their work, and artists quote them as icons of harmony — between craft and inspiration, between dwarf and elf, between earth and air.

Adventure Hooks

  1. The Cracked Pediment: Elandor begs the heroes for help — a newly installed sculpture has begun bleeding dust at night, as if alive.

  2. The Missing Mural: Merrilda’s newest mosaic commission vanishes in transit; a smuggler wants its gemstones for darker art.

  3. The Lovers’ Quarrel: An argument between the two (creative jealousy, or perhaps a cursed commission) causes a magical resonance in their art — their works begin moving on their own.

  4. A Royal Secret: A hidden message or prophecy was embedded in one of their oldest works at the queen’s request — and now someone wants it silenced.
