High Priest of the Temple of Chauntea
Male Firbolg, Neutral Good (Monk 5/Cleric 5)
Description
Towering at nearly eight feet tall but somehow never intimidating, Brother moves with the slow grace of someone who has made peace with every inch of the world around him. His skin has the soft hue of mossy bark, his hair a tumble of gray-green curls that catch stray bits of straw and flower petals. His eyes — large, pale blue, and kind — seem to reflect the open sky itself.
He wears a simple brown robe tied with a hemp cord, its pockets always full of herbs, seeds, or half-eaten apples. Around his neck hangs a small wooden charm carved in the shape of a sprouting grain stalk — the only adornment he permits himself. His voice is deep and gentle, like rain falling on fertile soil, and when he laughs, it’s low and rumbling, as though the earth itself joins in.
Personality
Brother is the living embodiment of humility and patience. He refuses titles, insisting everyone — from beggar to baron — call him simply “Brother.” Even visiting nobles find it impossible to be offended by his simplicity; he treats them the same way he treats a weary farmer or a curious child: with tea, a story, and a listening ear.
He believes deeply that tending life is holy work, whether it’s a crop, an animal, or a broken heart. He spends as much time outside in the fields as he does inside the temple, helping farmers plant or carrying baskets of produce into Lygos for the hungry.
He has an almost mystical calm — the kind that disarms anger just by being near it — but those who have seen him in true defense of the helpless describe it as like watching a tree uproot itself to shield a child.
Mannerisms & Habits
-
Always walks barefoot, even in winter, claiming “the earth likes to be reminded of us.”
-
Speaks slowly, leaving long pauses as though listening to something deeper than words.
-
Offers small, thoughtful gifts — a sprig of thyme for strength, a stone for focus, a seed for hope.
-
Has a fondness for tea so strong he keeps a kettle hanging over the temple hearth at all hours.
Quotes
“The Mother’s hand is not heavy, my child. It simply reminds us where to plant.”
“We cannot rush a harvest, nor should we rush forgiveness.”
“The fields do not compete — yet all find their place in the sun.”
Role in Lygos
Brother has served the Temple of Chauntea for over sixty years, guiding generations of farmers, monks, and wanderers. To the common folk, he’s a living saint — not because of miracles, but because of his steady kindness and unwavering patience.
He has no desire for power or recognition; he often gives his own bed to travelers or sleeping children. When questioned about leadership, he smiles and says, “I just keep the weeds from choking the roots.”
He rarely leaves the farmlands, but his influence reaches deep into the city. Nobles seek his counsel in secret, and thieves have been known to confess their sins to him beneath the apple trees outside the temple.
