Queen Nettle Burrwhistle
Halfling • Bandit Queen of the Alimir Passes • The Thorn of the Trails
Appearance
Queen Nettle Burrwhistle stands barely three feet tall, but every inch radiates menace. She has sharp hazel eyes, curly black hair tied with bone beads, and a grin like a wolf cub’s.
Her armor is cobbled together from scavenged plates, dyed leather, and enchanted scraps pulled off fallen adventurers. She carries a shortbow almost as tall as she is and a dagger carved from a manticore spike.
Personality
Nettle is:
-
bold
-
ruthless
-
witty
-
dangerously charming
-
utterly fearless
She has the swagger of someone who has outsmarted larger foes her entire life. She treats banditry as both an art and a business.
She calls herself “Queen” with total sincerity — and increasingly, others agree.
Her Deal with the Commanders
Nettle made a quiet pact with Aelivara and Durak:
-
She will never raid inside the Pevadaas Trail proper.
-
Her gang can plunder every other unguarded trail in the Alimirs.
-
In exchange, she keeps rival bandit factions in check.
It’s an uneasy arrangement.
But over the last year, Nettle has:
-
broken or absorbed every other bandit gang
-
secured control of nearly all secret trails
-
established hidden camps and waypoints
-
become a shadow ruler of the mountains’ underbelly
Her power grows quickly, and she knows the commanders rely on her more than they will admit.
Ambitions
Nettle dreams of:
-
absolute control over all mountain travel
-
a full-fledged “Bandit Kingdom” hidden in the peaks
-
eventually levying her own “tolls” on both sides of the pass
-
expanding her territory into Calimshan’s frontier—and perhaps Lygos’s
She pretends to be satisfied with their deal, but ambition burns hot.
Quotes
“A queen’s crown can be gold… or the fear of every road in the mountains.”
“I keep your pass clean. You keep out of my business. Fair trades, aye?”
“One day, all these paths will be mine. Even the straight ones.”
⚔️ Dynamic Between the Three
Aelivara (Lygos)
-
sees Nettle as a useful but temporary evil
-
secretly plans to arrest her one day
-
respects Durak but dislikes his lax discipline
Durak (Calimshan)
-
views Nettle as cheaper than hiring more troops
-
trusts her to keep the lesser trails quiet
-
considers Aelivara too strict but ultimately reliable
Nettle (Bandit Queen)
-
plays the two commanders against each other
-
sees the Trail as an eventual prize
-
uses her “pact” as a shield while she expands
Together, they maintain a tense balance — but it’s only a matter of time before someone tips the scales.
