Elayrue's Journal

This book is wrapped in oak leaf and has entries written in Sylvan. This book served as the journal of the eladrin archdruid Elayrue, with some entries also written by Lily, Elayrue’s pixie companion. The following consist of the most recent entries in the journal.

-------------------------------

I arrived in Chult earlier today. Lily has been getting both scared and excited at the sight of the strange fauna of the area. I have to admit the sight of all these different dinosaurs in person has given me the chills. I haven’t seen anything like this in the Feywild. Maybe the locals would feel the same if they came to the Feywild.

I can already picture myself transforming into one of these Tyrannosaurus Rex to play a trick on Lily, for a change. Oh, Lily… After hearing the locals of Port Nyanzaru tell me how the jungles of Chult are among the most dangerous places in Faerûn, and about their intelligent plants with huge teeth and claws, she refused to go explore outside of the city. She ended up relenting, not without a lot of convincing, only to fly to the nearest ‘’pretty flower’’ she saw, and almost getting herself eaten alive. I was so scared. Luckily, I helped her in time. I nursed her injury and she’s fine now. She’s going to be the death of me someday.

Although the death curse has been lifted in the area, the cursory exploration of the area I did today has shown me that there is a lot I can do to help restore nature on the Chultan peninsula. I’ll spend additional time tomorrow asking the locals about the death curse, but from what I’ve gathered, the curse was caused by a necromantic artifact held within a tomb located in the ruins of Omu. I must stop writing for now, Lily is getting bored.

-------------------------------

I’ve ventured outside of Port Nyanzaru and been traveling with Lily for many days. The locals weren’t wrong, wandering through the Chultan Jungles is far from being  a quiet walk in the park, but we’ve finally managed to make it to the ruined city of Hisari. On the way there, we stopped by Mezro, or, more accurately, what’s left of it. I’m told that Mezro was destroyed during the Spellplague, and I can’t see any clear indication of the contrary, but there’s something about the place that makes me feel like there’s more to the story. When I mentioned it to Lily, she told me I had too much imagination. Lily, of all people, told me that…

Maybe she’s starting to rub off on me.

The ruins of Hisari sit at the foot of the Crown, a volcano at the end of the Sky Lizard Mountains. It looks like, one day, the earth came to life and swallowed half the city, preventing it from ever seeing the sun again. There are no Yuan-Ti here, everything is engulfed by vines, moss and strange flowers. Within one of the craters, I found the remains of a building. Its golden rooftop was covered with roots and ash, and its walls were overgrown with razorvine. There was a strange light coming from inside, and upon inspection, I’ve come to realize it came from the many small flow worms that slither around the place. From what I’ve noticed, it seems like some repairs may have been made here. I wasn’t expecting this. However, I haven’t crossed paths with anyone else. Perhaps whoever was there is long gone. I’ve elected to create a druid grove there, even though Lily keeps complaining about its high level of humidity, this place fascinates me way too much to pass on the opportunity.

-------------------------------

Yesterday, we came across a Chwinga. Initially, Lily tried to interact with it, but it ran away from her. She kept chasing it until she lost its sight. She was quite disappointed. A few hours later, I noticed that the same Chwinga was following us. I told Lily to remain calm, and not scare it off. I played some games with Lily so that we would show that we were harmless, and the Chwinga came closer and closer to us. Eventually, we could interact with it, and it seemed to take a liking to us. Lily begged us to adopt it. We befriended it and it’s been following us around since. Lily named it Luna.

-------------------------------

Today, Lily got together with Luna so that they could pull a prank on me. They took a pretty flower and gave it to me, pretending it was a gift. Then, when I looked at the flower, it sprouted water on my face! I can’t believe she managed to bring Luna into her shenanigans.

-------------------------------

The cookbook we decided to make is definitely going to take much longer than anticipated. Lily keeps wanting to change the name of the book, and she also wants us to merge our names together as if we were a single person that wrote it. Her most recent suggestion is ‘’Ellyna’s Totally A-dough-able and Fairy Good Recipes that Donut Disappoint!’’. She also keeps drawing pictures on the sides of the pages, but the pictures don’t even represent what’s being made with the recipe on that page. Earlier today, she went and picked a bunch of pink flowers, and dropped them in the soup I was making, hoping that it would make the broth turn pink. It didn’t work, and the soup was inedible afterwards.

-------------------------------

This page is covered with dirt, and some greenish hue. It looks as if someone tried to scribble something on the pages with soil and plants. A comment has been written on the side of that page.

Luna is good with helping with pranks, but not so good for writing yet!

-------------------------------

Lily, I told you not to read my journal while I’m gone on an errand.

Next to that entry, a tiny message has been written. The message is surrounded by small drawings of hearts and flowers.

How did you know I would look? You still love me anyway!

-------------------------------

The following entry, and all the other entries from this point on, are written in a smaller font than the previous ones. It is surrounded by drawings of dark clouds, rain, broken hearts and wilting flowers.

Why are you gone for so long Ellie? It never takes that long to make errands. You are gone too long and you have to come back now.

Are you gone because you know I look in your journal and it makes you upset?

I am sorry Ellie, I will never look at your journal again. Please come back. Luna and I miss you very much. I will do whatever you want if you come back.  I will stop making too many pictures in the cookbook, and we will also name it “Ellie, Lily, and Luna’s Cookbook of Delicacies and Delights” like you wanted. Please, please, please come back, please Ellie. You are my best friend in the whole world. And Luna too.

There are a few more entries like this, that show Lily becoming increasingly distressed and worried at the absence of Ellie.

-------------------------------

I thought I would be happy with any gifts Ellie would give me. Especially her journal! I was never supposed to look at it anymore, but she said she didn’t care about it anymore and that she was surprised Luna and I were still alive. That’s a weird thing to say. She didn’t even seem that happy about it. She said that I could have the journal now, because she won’t need it anymore, that the only thing she needs now is to become more powerful. She keeps saying ‘’those dirty scaleskins will pay’’ or things like that.

On the side of the page, there are some drawings of cute lizards and snakes with hats.

Ellie doesn’t want to tell bedtime stories anymore. She says it’s a waste of time. Instead, she spends the night screaming or crying. That’s even more of a waste of time than bedtime stories if you ask me. Even if she won’t tell bedtime stories anymore, I went to comfort her, but she told me to go away and to leave her alone. She makes me so sad. Luna is very perceptive because she could tell I was sad even if I was hiding it. She stayed with me so I wouldn’t be so sad. She even druidcrafted s bedtime story for me to fall asleep. She is so nice.

On the side of the next page, there are five drawings of the same hooded lady, each with different things hiding under her hood: glow worms, bats, tentacles, weasels, and horrifying looking bees.
