Francis Wayland Thurston is an anthropologist from Boston who has spent his life going on research expeditions around the world and teaching at prestigious universities. After sailing across the Indian Ocean on the Emma in search of mysterious forgotten civilizations and then teaching for a few years at the University of New Orleans, Thurston started traveling around the country, giving lectures on the mysterious cults of the people of the northern-most reaches of the world. While in Arkham in the early ’80s, he met Henry Armitage, who invited him to give a lecture in Innsmouth. From then on, Thurston’s visits to Innsmouth became more and more frequent, until he chose to move there permanently, quickly becoming a well-known and respected figure in town. Three years ago, he became Innsmouth’s mayor.
