Pinewood were the closest forested area to Stormhaven, and served as an important source of lumber and game for the city. The city of Stormhaven remained on good terms with the native wood elven tribes, who allowed the folk there enough wood to last through the cold, in exchange for processed goods from Stormhaven, which included weapons and armor of steel and metal.
Pinewood were home to many superstitions, most of which were true. Visitors claimed to have seen ancient corpses absorbed into the trees of the woods, and also claimed to have seen wandering ghostly figures in white dresses, intelligent wolves and darker things still.
The druid circle of the Fire Walkers were allowed to hold their ceremonies in the woods, although such practices were kept to the borders of the woods.
Finally, Pinewood had a certain association with death and unpredictable magic. Hauntings were said to be common deeper in the woods, and hidden lakes and pools of water were said to imbue visions on visitors that could drive them mad.
