Separating the Howling Fields from the Frostmane Plains, the Cragmaw Heights were a smaller mountain range famous for its beautiful cat creatures known as crag cats. The mountains were said to be the home of a beautiful people of sirens that would lure travelers with promises of warmth and food, only to let their cats feed on them.
Formed mostly by erosion of nearby flatlands, this area is notorious for its large pingo formations that has since been covered in snow since the calamity. When digging through the ground here, shifting layers of soil and ice can be found, resulting in beautiful icy cavern systems where crag cats tend to make their dens, hence the name of the region.
Notable locations
These locations were discovered by The Party.
Coiling Foothills
These rugged hills were home for cragmaw cats, a more fierce version of regular crag cats, and nests of remorhaz. Following the recent deicide between the usurper gods and Isani, the hills were plagued by frequent avalanches.
Lover's Rock
Nestled between two smaller mountains, this passage had the faces of the usurper gods carved into their sides. Large runestones stood nearby, with text hinting at some of the earliest prayers known in the Path of Fire and Ice. The stone were written in dwarvish, betraying their origins.
Centuries ago, it was customary to offer small gifts in the shape of gemstones to carvings such as these to gain the boon of the Lady of Fire and the Lord of Frost.
Harkin's Cross
A large monument of a dwarven paladin stood vigil over this beautiful landscape, where the mountain trails continued into the Cragmaw Forest in a nearby valley, or alternatively into the mountain trails further into the mountains. A runestone with the giant symbol of "Dream" could be found in front of the monument.
The cross was home to a tribe of stone giants, as the party found out after disturbing the runestone.
Cragmaw Forest
This ominous forest were nestled deep in the mountains. Small bags of sticks, moss and bone could be found throughout the forest. A large terrifying creature made of the same material moved through the forest at night with piercing blue eyes. The party encountered a pack of sapphire dragon wyrmlings, indicating the presence of dragons nearby in addition to the other dangers.
The Icewalker Bears
Upon venturing through the forest, The Party came across a tribe of werebears headed by Jominn, accompanied by Beorn. The tribe of werebears had lost one of their warriors to Folduin Caerlinn not long before they met the party, and were on edge. After a brief talk, the party was led to the tribes caverns, where they found Aither Pyrite, Myllo Shapewater and Serani. Despite offering shelter for the friends of the party, the tribe were a survivalist branch, refusing to magically heal those that were too weak to fend for themselves in nature.
