Alaska changes everything. The blood of wolves runs differently in a land where the sun vanishes for months and the aurora speaks in colors that have no name.
Every Wolf-Blooded has at least one Tell. It is the supernatural mark that separates you from ordinary people. Your Tell may be subtle — something only those who look closely would notice — or it may be dramatic and impossible to hide. Either way, it defines your connection to the world of wolves and spirits.
Each Tell comes with a drawback and a Boon. The drawback is the price you pay for being different: suspicion from humans, physical discomfort, or social penalties. The Boon is the benefit — the supernatural ability your Tell grants you.
You start with one Tell at character creation. You can gain a second Tell by purchasing the Tell Merit (•••).
The following Tells are unique to The Last Frontier chronicle. They reflect the extreme environment, the spiritual landscape, and the cosmic horror themes of the Anchorage setting. These Tells are available to any Wolf-Blooded character with Storyteller approval.
Aurora Sight
Your eyes shift color with the northern lights, cycling through greens, violets, and occasionally an unsettling amber. People find it deeply unnerving in conversation. You suffer –2 on Social rolls with strangers who can see your eyes.
Boon: You can read the aurora’s spiritual health instinctively — healthy green and purple versus the sickly yellow that signals something wrong. When the aurora is visible, you can perceive spirits in Twilight as though you had the Piercing Eyes Tell, and you gain +2 to Empathy rolls to sense a spirit’s emotional state or intent.
Permafrost Blood
You run cold. Your skin is cool to the touch even in summer, your breath fogs indoors, and drinks left in your hands go cold. Medical professionals find your core temperature alarmingly low. You suffer –2 on rolls to blend in at social gatherings or pass medical examinations.
Boon: You are immune to hypothermia and cold-based environmental Tilts. You can spend a Willpower point to freeze moisture on a surface roughly the size of a door, creating slick ice useful for traps, blocking pursuit, or preserving evidence. In the Shadow, your touch leaves frost patterns that persist for hours, marking your passage for your pack to follow.
Earthquake Echo
You feel tremors that aren’t there. Your hands shake. Glasses rattle when you enter a room. Furniture vibrates faintly. Animals are skittish around you. Near the Gauntlet wounds left by the 1964 quake, it gets worse: up to –2 on Dexterity-based rolls in affected areas.
Boon: You sense thin points in the Gauntlet without a roll, feeling them as intensifying tremors. At a locus, you can spend a Willpower point and roll Wits + Occult to briefly widen a Gauntlet wound enough for a single spirit (up to Rank 2) to cross in either direction. This is uncontrolled and unsubtle — any nearby spirit will notice.
Raven’s Whisper
Ravens follow you. Not one or two — flocks. They perch near your home, trail you on walks, and gather whenever something significant is about to happen. You suffer –1 on Stealth rolls outdoors, and the ravens occasionally steal small objects from people nearby, causing social friction.
Boon: The ravens are reflections of Raven-spirits drawn to your resonance. Once per chapter, you can ask the ravens a question about something happening within the pack’s territory. The Storyteller provides a cryptic but truthful answer, delivered through the ravens’ behavior — where they fly, what they drop at your feet, whether they scream or go silent. You also gain +2 to Investigation rolls when searching outdoor scenes or tracking within territory.
Star Sickness
You get nosebleeds under certain stars — specific configurations that don’t appear on any chart you can find. When the aurora flickers yellow, you vomit. When the permafrost cracks, you bleed from the ears. You suffer a persistent –1 to Composure rolls when outdoors at night during winter months.
Boon: You are a living alarm system for cosmic horror. You automatically sense when something related to Angalkuq’s Mistake or the things sealed in the permafrost is active or growing in power. You can spend a Willpower point to gain a brief, terrifying vision of what the threat is doing right now. These visions always cost a breaking point on Integrity, but the information is accurate.
Midnight Sun
During the summer months (May through July), you cannot sleep. At all. The endless daylight has seeped into your biology. You become manic, restless, and increasingly erratic. You suffer –1 on Social rolls during summer months due to your frenetic energy unsettling others.
Boon: During the midnight sun, you never suffer fatigue penalties and gain +1 to all Wits-based rolls. During winter, the Tell inverts: you sleep deeply and dream true. Once per week during the dark months, you can ask the Storyteller for a prophetic dream about a threat facing the pack. The dream is symbolic, never literal, but always relevant.
❄ Alaska Note: Choosing a Custom Tell These Tells are designed to connect your character directly to the themes and threats of the Anchorage chronicle. Star Sickness ties you to the cosmic horror metaplot. Earthquake Echo connects you to the city’s wounded Gauntlet. Raven’s Whisper roots you in Alaskan wildlife and indigenous symbolism. |
