Description

Summer's armory, training ground, and operational headquarters. The Forge sits in the Interior near the Margin's edge — close enough to the Fireline that deployment is fast, far enough back that it isn't under direct threat. It is the largest single-purpose Hollow in the Freehold, built to house Summer's war effort.

The exterior is brutal and functional: a squat, angular structure of fused Hedge-stone and scorched iron, venting heat through chimneys that glow faint orange at all hours. The entrance is wide enough to move equipment through and reinforced enough to survive a direct Shard impact, though it has never needed to. The air near the Forge is always warm, even by Interior standards, carrying the smell of hot metal, oil, and the sharp ozone scent of Hedge-logic being bent into weapons.

Inside, the Forge is divided into three areas. The Workshop is where Tokens are repaired, weapons are maintained, and Summer's Wizened crafters build the tools the Fireline depends on — including the incendiary compounds used in Burns. The Training Hall is an open space where combat drills, tactical planning, and Fireline readiness exercises take place. Every Changeling in the Freehold is expected to complete basic combat training here regardless of Court, a requirement that generates grumbling from Spring and quiet compliance from everyone else. The War Room is where Kozlow and his officers plan operations — a space dominated by a massive Hedge-grown map of the Margin and the Grey that is updated after every Survey and Burn, with Scour positions marked in black pins that seem to shift slightly when you aren't looking directly at them.

The Forge's culture is military but not cold. Summer Courtiers take care of their own, and the Forge reflects this — there is food, there is camaraderie, there are traditions (names carved into the Workshop walls, a bell that rings when a Burn party returns intact). But the purpose of the place is never in question. Everything here exists to keep people alive in the Margin, and the Forge does not let you forget that.
