The desert planet of Gratus is harsh and unforgiving. Ancient Vesk rites of adulthood, no matter the planet, dictated a period of time devoted to absolute self-sufficient survival. As space exploration became easier, Gratus became chosen as the de facto planet to host such rituals. The hot, arid climate was one thing; the plentiful and dangerous fauna were another. All animals require water and some form of shelter from extreme temperatures, and supposed safe havens from the heat became tombs due to them actually being nests.

What few communities exist do so in tightly controlled communities devoted to making sure no effort was made in waste; a single drop of sweat was water lost, and every calorie was micromanaged to the letter. These combined elements lead to Gratusa peoples being hardy and unit-driven, making them ideal for military service, whether to the Vesk as a whole or to the Accord.

Moons

Jeneta - With an orbit situating it perpetually in Gratus's shadow, it offers an ironic and amusing antithesis to its host. Equally harsh and desolate, but below freezing at all times.
