Hey what's up, welcome to the overview of the homebrew campaign called Butterfly, build by the help of Fifth Age and it's handbook. I use Kanka to track the locations my group of players visit and all the characters they meet. You can find everything you need to know about the galaxy on this page, from characters to planets and their history. Have fun!

The Milky Way

The Milky Way is a huge compound of more than 300 billion stars and many habitable systems that orbits a supermassive black hole at the heart of it. The galactic arms rotate around this black hole more than 100,000 light-years in diameter. It serves as a backdrop for trade, politics, and war throughout galactic history. The edge of the Milky Way's disk is surrounded by a huge energy field of negative energy, the Galactic Barrier, which makes travel in and out of the Milky Way difficult.

In the science of stellar cartography, the Milky Way was divided into four large regions called quadrants: Prilaq, Mysserian Territory, Dova Rim and the Unknown, each of which formed part of the Milky Way. Each quadrant was divided into thousands of sectors. Scientists estimate that one in 59,774,665 planets supports intelligent life forms. The population of the Milky Way therefore consists of about 2,5 trillion intelligent life forms. Estimates place the different species as follows:

Humans

A species of sapient, usually hairless ape native to the third planet of the Sol system, commonly known as Rilia to the remainder of the Milky Way, or as Earth to its natives.

  • Cyborg
Cybernetically augmented from before birth, these humans have integrated technological components into their bodies, offering them possibilities denied to their purely biological brethren.
  • Spaceborn
Genetically modified for life in space, this type of human is particularly adapted for life with wide gravity tolerances (from 0 to 3 g), and high radiation environments. Notable for a complete lack of body hair and a lower body temperature, as well as a host of other minor changes.
  • Earthborn
You are notable not for genetic or technological augmentation but rather for the lack of them. As a normally born human, raised to adulthood on earth herself, you had the chance to study the latest technologies, attend the most ancient of universities, and to be in the very heart of human culture, granting you opportunities and experiences no other human possesses.
  • Tube born
Designed in a lab, with certain traits in mind, you were born of genetic experimentation and scientific funding, not biological parents. You can look in the mirror knowing that you are exactly what your creator wanted you to be.

Synthetics

Created and built, these synthetic life forms are sentient, sapient, and one would certainly hope, completely loyal to the species who created them.

  • Service Model
Designed for human interaction, these models have more processing power and better emotion emulators and motile facial features.
  • Laborer Model
Built for heavy lifting, you are like a cross between a longshoreman and a forklift.
  • Security Model
Protecting  humanity  sometimes  means  pacifying them with force, for their own good of course, and you were designed to do this with the minimum amount of risk to human safety.
  • Tech Model
You were designed to aid in the gathering and processing of data, general research, and to assist in technical tasks.

Greyliens

The K’Titch’Zaa first visited Rilia many millennia ago, and have kept up a fitful watch over us for much of the time since. Looked down on by the rest of Galactic Society as lacking in advancement and making no contributions to society, they were given the very least priority for colonization and resource extraction, and few species had any interest in trade with them. All of that changed when their compassion saved the crew of humanity’s first doomed expedition to a neighboring star. Known from that day to this as Greys, or Grey Aliens, and now commonly Greylians, the K’Titch’Zaa have become humanity’s only true alien ally.

  • Shorts
These diminutive Greyliens are timid and cautious, particularly quiet, and are excellent mechanics.
  • Talls
Up to twice the height of Shorts, Talls are medium sized, and noticeably stronger and healthier than the rest of their kin.
  • Friendlies
Adaptable and outgoing, often called little green men, these aliens are known for their servile natures and easygoing ways. Gracious and even charming, these aliens have made their way into human and galactic society in many ways.

Aliens

The universe is teeming with alien life, and a fair amount of it has clawed its way up the evolutionary ladder to sapience, meaning that explorers will meet countless examples of alien species if they travel far enough, long enough.

  • Stophs
The Stoph are a species of gastropoidal aliens native to a system deep in the zone of influence of the Galactic Commonwealth. Humans encountered several large colonies of the Stoph on the edge of our space where they languished on the commonwealth frontier and quite cheerily accepted humanity’s offers of relative freedom under the colonial charter of the League of Starfaring Nations. Stoph make excellent pilots, and have found myriad opportunities on independent and corporate ships operating the galactic frontier.
  • Tiels
The Tiel are humanoids that exist symbiotically with a barky plant that covers their skin. While being (fairly) close to mammals, the plant component of their physiology offers several interesting benefits. Able to survive up to three months without food thanks to photosynthesis, and several hours without air, the Tiel are a particularly hardy species. Omnivorous, Tiel consume less than one might expect for beings of their bulk, but are often driven to taste anything they encounter that might be edible.
  • Dahts
The Daht are a group of hulking humanoids with a penchant for violence and the reputation for the same. With no real worlds of their own, Daht mercenaries wander the galaxy finding service for up to generations at a time, serving as bodyguards, soldiers, and even just hired muscle. Although prone to emotional outbursts, one should never think a Daht is just big and dumb, because they would only be half right.
  • Lu'Venu
Lurns were first encountered by humans in a primitive state similar to earth’s stone age. Intelligent and adaptable, Lurns are no fools, despite their primitive background. Lurns possess two sexes, and lay eggs that are alternatingly carried by either gender in an abdominal pouch until hatching, when the young are raised communally by all adult Lurn. Socially motivated in their breeding practices, Lurns breeding pairs will reassess their partner’s status constantly, and break it to pursue better opportunities when they present themselves.

Byths

Bijels are an orange humanoid species that share almost all of the character traits of a regular human except that their skin has an orange glow. Bijels' heads are often built more oval than the average human, because their brain is lower in the skull. Bijels are known for their fast fingers, hard skin and high durability.

Kai’Hainor

Kluks were believed to be the first intelligent life form that roamed the universe. The were a orange to brownish humanoid life form with a rough face with extended jawbones forming what almost looks like a very pointy beard. This race is native to the Pront-System HZ-000 and most high ranked staff from the government are Kluks.

Map

Prilaq is the most centralized quadrant of the Milky Way, it consists of Deep Prilaq, Outer Prilaq and the Expanse. Most planets of this quadrant (especially deep prilaq) are very wealthy and are held in high esteem in the rest of the galaxy. The worlds in Prilaq are often trendsetters in fashion, art, customs and modernity. They are also usually very densely populated and are sometimes completely overbuilt with buildings and industrial zones. It is also home to the large Pront Republic. For at least a thousand years, the dominant governing body of the Milky Way is this Presidential Republic, otherwise known as the Government, which is governed and directed by the Galactic President and his Chancellors.

The Mysserian Empire have established a highly organized and efficient system of governance over this territory, with a strong central authority controlled by the Queen and her advisers. Each planet and system is governed by a local governor, who is responsible for maintaining order and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively. The Mysserian Empire is known for its technological advancements, with highly advanced manufacturing facilities and research laboratories spread throughout the territory. They have developed powerful weapons and warships, as well as advanced terraforming technologies that allow them to transform barren planets into habitable worlds.

Overall, the Mysserian Empire is a formidable power in the galaxy, with a highly efficient and technologically advanced society that allows them to exert significant control over the territories they govern. However, their dominance is not absolute, and there are many forces that seek to challenge or overthrow their rule.

The Unknown (Laephis Territory) is a vast and mysterious region of the galaxy, located on the outer borders of the Milky Way. It is littered with dangerous anomalies and uncharted star systems. Most spacefaring civilizations avoid it altogether, considering it a place of ill omen and superstition. However, for the daring few who venture into The Unknown, there are rumored to be untold riches and hidden knowledge waiting to be discovered. Legends speak of ancient alien artifacts and lost technologies that could unlock the secrets of the universe itself, as well as rare minerals and resources that could make a fortune for any who could claim them.

Despite the risks, there are always those who are willing to take their chances and explore the unknown depths of the galaxy. Some do it for the thrill of adventure, while others hope to make their fortune or uncover the secrets of the universe. Whatever their motives, the explorers of The Unknown must be bold, skilled, and ready for anything that the galaxy can throw at them. Throughout history, there have been cases of criminals and outlaws seeking refuge in remote or inaccessible areas to evade law enforcement.
