Here is the summary of Tabitha's ride.
After everyone began settling in for the evening, Tabitha slipped into the night and went to find the horses. They were both tired but one certainly seemed in better shape. With no saddle or reigns, she headed out from the lodge to the north of the Ardeep Forest.
The Coven of Shadows knows parts of this forest well and occasionally camps at the old Talmost Keep, a long ruined keep that just barely still stands on the River Dessarin.
The darkness of the forest was palpable. As quickly as she rode, she paid very little attention to the path and found her face cut several times by low hanging small branches but she continued pressing on under the new moon.
Finally, after about four hours of riding, Tabitha catches a glimmer of firelight at the ruined keep ahead. She dismounts the horse and walks quietly up to the fire. She doesn't recognize the witch who sits there but sees she is clearly part of the Coven of Shadows. Tabitha starts to introduce herself but the old woman interrupts: "Sit, child. And be still for a moment." The woman's voice cracks and groans like an old tree blowing in the wind.
As Tabitha stares quietly, she sees the fire turn from a warm yellow to a crackling green color. The witch removes a bowl that has been steeping on the fire and pours the contents into a cup which she hands to Tabitha. "Inhale this but don't drink."
Tabitha knows the woman would not hurt her so she takes the cup and inhales deeply. Her vision starts to blur a bit and the landscape changes before her eyes. A large battlefield appears before her with nothing but destruction as far as the eyes can see. Across the field, standing in victory is a large, black shadow of a humanoid. The shadow wields a staff with a black stone in the end.
Just as Tabitha begins to turn and look around, she finds herself aloft, soaring in the sky. She is being carried by... an angel? a demon? It is hard to tell but she has seen this man before in her vision at Helm's Hall. She is scared of how high and how fast they begin to fly but she feels, somehow, safe. The shadow on the horizon nears and grows larger and larger until she realizes that this is no man, this is a giant. The staff he wields must be the size of a large tree and the gem it contains, a boulder.
As they approach, the giant raises his staff to the sky. A beam of shadow extends from the stone to the sun and the sun begins to blacken. Just before the darkness is complete, Tabitha feels herself falling. With a huge gasp, she awakens to find herself back in Talmost Keep. The old woman is gone. The fire is out. In fact, the fire is cold and appears as though it hasn't been lit in months.
Not knowing quite why, Tabitha reaches into the fire ring and takes a small piece of charcoal, secreting it into a small pocket in her cloak.
She climbs onto the horse and begins the long ride back to the hunting lodge. She had hoped to be returning with some potions and magic items or at least some information. Instead, she would return with a few potion ingredients and more mystery.
On her ride back, she passed two elven sentries. She knew they had arrows trained on her but also knew they wouldn't fire as long as she didn't threaten them and continued on her way.
She arrives back at the lodge just before dawn. After proving her identity to Erky, he lets her in, hands her a hot cup of tea and invites her to an early breakfast while he finishes preparing breakfast for the others.
