The Nightstone once stood at the center of Nightstone, giving the town its name. The stone's multifaceted glimmering face is covered with ancient runes dealing with the beginning and end of time. For as long as anyone can remember, a piece of the stone had been missing. The simplified sigil of the Unknown family, Elminster has noted, appeared on the stone roughly 50-60 years ago.
The piece, known as the The Nightstone Shard, has since been reunited with the rest of the Nightstone, in Is There a Plan Here? [Session 37]. When the two pieces reunited, the Nightstone, now whole, shrunk down to fit into one's palm.
This stone is one of the three Creation Stones. This stone used to belong to Elminster Aumar while Selûne holds the Moonstone, and Shar's principle Cleric, Damian Krale, supposedly holds the Shadow Stone in his mace, a weapon that goes by the same name.
