Per Historia Arcandor Materia

This dagger is an evil thing, further enhanced to be a weapon of significance when Ander Blackwood infused it with Shadow magic. Requires attunement. It is already a +3 item, with an additional 1d8 Necrotic damage when a wounding blow is made. It also has the ability to suck life from a target to regenerate that health back into its wielder. 

Found in the Historia:

• The dagger has three names, with no one name being more important or of a higher meaning than the others. Soul Shard, Death Shade, and Dusk, from The Dusk Blade. 
• Underneath the addition of the name Dusk, is a quick note "May also be white." However, the drawing next to this note, of the dagger, is of a black blade. 
• The bearer of the dagger may be able to flip the weapon's alignment to good, based on the above observation.
• No presence of Shadow is mentioned in the book.
• It is one of a pair of weapons, its other half being a sword. Both were forged by smiths in the Underdark. Mirt had both in his possession and gave them to Ander Blackwood upon the young man's request for the finest weapons Mirt could obtain.

Blackstaff:

• (Ep 16 Part 2, Video Timestamp- 0:02:43) The next page deals with the Blackstaff from whence Blackstaff gets her name. It has a pretty detailed description of the staff and what it looks like. It also has a description of a few of the properties. There are some notes that seem to indicate that the entry is not complete. A very interesting one is that the staff has the ability to animate or activate the walking statues of Waterdeep. The staff actually has the ability to animate them and call them to battle. There are some other details but so far the most important seems to be about the controlling of the statues.

The Blackstaff is the wizarding staff used in the line of Blackstaffs of Waterdeep. It is capable of a powerful array of spells as well as granting its proper wielder a myriad of abilities.

The staff has the power to animate the statues of Waterdeep, bringing them to life to defend the city.

The staff can be used to dispel magic and also to drain magic (removing one spell from the highest slot available to a target).

The staff holds 20 charges and regains 2d8 charges per day. The staff can cast a number of spells as well at various levels and requiring various charges:

• Magic Missile (1 charge)
• Levitate (2 charges)
• Cone of Cold (5 charges)
• Fireball (5th lvl only, 5 charges)
• Hold Monster (5 charges)
• Wall of Force (5 charges)
• Lightning Bolt (5th lvl only, 5 charges)
• Globe of Invulnerability (6 charges)

The staff can be used to cast enchantment spells with no cost of spell slots (with a check from its wielder). Additionally, it is rumored to be sentient. It requires attunement and can only be attuned to by the Blackstaff. 

The staff can be used to store spells, akin to the Spirit Trap spell. At the present time, it contains multiple spirits, including ALL of the spirits of past Blackstaff individuals. It is a part of the ceremony that creates the new Blackstaff when the responsibility is moved to a new individual. Its loyalty is to the city of Waterdeep and then to the current Blackstaff in that order. It will do everything it can to make the Blackstaff (the person) stronger as long as that person serves its primary goal, protecting Waterdeep. At present, it also holds the spirit of Khelben Arunsun.

Found on one of the recovered "Missing Pages:"

On the Creation Stones: it is clear there is a Sunstone, also called the Moonstone at times, and a Nightstone. They are referenced clearly. There is also mention of a Shadowstone, which seems to be synonymous with a Dawnstone/Duskstone. it is unclear how many full stones there are. When it refers to the Shadowstone, it is also called the Dawn or Dusk stone, depending on the context. The impression is gotten that the Shadowstone is actually made up of both a Dawnstone and a Duskstone. While there are drawings of four stones, each time, there's the impression the Shadowstone is comprised of two separate stones. So in reality, while the illustrations always show four stones, there are only three final stones: Sun/Moonstone, Nightstone, and Shadowstone (made of Dawn/Dusk). It occurs to Z that a lot of the markings on the Nightstone now make much more sense, seeing all of these notes.

Who has the stones: Sun/Moonstone was entrusted to Selûne, the Nightstone to Elminster Aumar, and the Shadowstone to Shar. Shar is a bit of Selune's enemy, with the idea they, being somewhat enemies of each other, would never join together or share their stones' power. The group remembers that Shar put the Shadowstone into the primary weapon of her defender, Damian Krale, making the whereabouts of the stone, unknown. Krale's weapon - now a mace - most likely contains the stone, and the weapon is also referred to as the Shadow Stone so long as Krale bears both the stone, and the item that stores it.

Related to the vault containing Dunamancy:

There is mention of using the stones to lock or unlock the vault, and using the stones must be done "in the space or place between sunlight, moonlight, shadow, and darkness." It reminds the group of the carving Z saw of the phases of the sun, in Sara's cave. The page doesn't say if this is an actual place, or a state of mind, or something else.

Godsbane:

1. (Ep 13, VT- 2:57:08) Godsbane was the sword used to slay the Gods. 

2. (Ep 14, VT- 1:56:32) The sword itself is inhabited/possessed/empowered by another being called Mask. Maska and Cyric were frequent nemeses of each other. At the end of the feud between them, in revenge, Cryc shattered Godsbane into 3 pieces. The book says the 3 pieces were maintained in the church of Cyric. Interestingly, Godsbane typically would absorb the lifeforce or souls of the people it killed, which gave it that red color. Even though it was “destroyed” it has not lost that color. When it’s not full of lifeforce and souls it was a typical silver color. As it absorbed, the blade turned black followed by a bright crimson. And while the magic should have been destroyed when the sword was broken, (noted with a circle around it) It has maintained its color. It was on display at the church of Cyric in Waterdeep for a time. But was taken off display, but was presumably it was still in the church.

An ancient item that supposedly was destroyed millennia ago, the original Moon Orb once belonged to a wizard named Larloch, the "Shadow King." Larloch is considered to have been the first Lich, and was a terrifyingly powerful wizard.

• It is most likely a Mythallar, bastardized with dark magic into what it is now.
• In the Historia, it is called a "Death Moon Orb."
• It can charm people with Mass Charm and Dominate Person.
• It can summon Fiends, from small to huge.
• It can animate the dead.
• It can be used as a scrying focus.
• It offers powers of ESP, Clairvoyance, and more.
• It can cast Darkness.
  
• It is black, dark, and cold.
• It can change size, shrinking to the size of a handheld ball, to been seen as large as a small barrel. It can probably become larger than that.

It is described - as far as its power goes - as extremely similar to a Mythallar. However, its powers are much more specific, while a Mythallar functions more as a font and resource of raw weave magic. The Death Moon Orb was actually taken from Larloch and was believed to have been destroyed long ago, when Mystra was killed (Shar and Cyric were involved in this event, with the former recruiting the latter).

There is also a drawing of it as a glassy sphere with swirling black and violet colors, along with a sketched illustration of Larloch himself.

 **Death Moon Orb**

- Created and owned by Larloch, Sorcerer King of Netheril

- The orb was originally created to allow Larloch to control and spy on his enemies, his citizens, and his court. Some of its known powers include the power to charm and dominate the minds of others, to spy on faraway points, to raise the dead, and to summon and compel fiends. It was also said to be cursed, perhaps by Larloch himself.

- The Orb was a gleaming and glassy sphere, colored black and violet. The colors swam uneasily together, so the surface shifted and shimmered like oil on water. The Death Moon Orb seemed to absorb light around, and to carry an aura of gloom and melancholy. If one gazed into the orb for long, then they could see a negative image of Selûne, the moon above, faintly glimmering on its surface.

- For reasons unknown, it changed size at irregular intervals, from the size of an apple or something that could fill a human man's hand, to the size of a man's head, though its size did not affect its power.

- The orb was said to have been created as an experiment. Larloch’s powers of sorcery had granted him the ability to draw magic into one place. The orb was said to be an early attempt at the creation of a mythallar. A pillar supported the orb atop a specific glyph carved into the stone beneath it. With the correct incantations, Larloch is said to have pulled enchantment magic directly from the weave and infused it into the sphere. Rumor says he attempted to create a larger version much later but, instead, created a stone that was used only as a channel. But it was rumored the stone was later used to create mythallars.

- The orb and the subsequent stone(s) changed hands many time over the years. When Mystra was murdered by Cyric, it is believed the Death Moon Orb was destroyed. However, some believe it simply vanished and returned to Larloch. He swore never to harm or battle against Mystra. Many believed he called the stone back to him lest it be used to harm her.  As to the stone, its whereabouts are unknown.

It takes Ely a few moments to find the Cyrinishad as it is buried in a section of other tomes. It is as if the author of Per Historia came across a library of magical works and tried to make note of them all. The entry for the Cyrinishad is very brief. It says, “Cyrinishad —rumored religious artifact— The Cyrinishad is the holy book of the Church of Cyric. While it may have existed at some point, this author has found only references to it in legend and has not seen the book itself. In ‘The History and Hysteria of the Church of Cyric - 1356,’ the book is said to have the power to ensnare the mind of the reader causing them to abandon any other gods or religion and to accept Cyric as both the god of truth but also the supreme ruler of the material plane. It is told, in the same work, that firm believers who have read the book will seek not only to follow Cyric but also to place him in positions of power as the head of state for any local, regional or broader government, thereby dethroning any and all other supreme leaders.

The physical book, if it ever existed at all, seems to have left recorded history around 1390 when it was reportedly torn asunder by dragons who had no interest in accepting Cyric as the leader of their societies.

Found on one of the recovered "Missing Pages:"

On the Cyrinishad, the notes are choppy and there isn't very much detail. The book is dangerous to be moved, and the book must be closed prior to moving. It also needs to be bound in some sort of flesh-made wrapping, such as a leather belt. "Any sort of flesh will work." The book itself only ensnares those who read it "with the hope of gathering information." Those seeking to learn more from the book are the people at risk of mental entrapment. There are different chapters of the book that do different things. (As an example, there is mention of "The Chapter of Binding," which, upon reading it, the reader is physically entrapped, somehow.) There is a small note on the page that says "learn more about other chapters." Whoever was doing the research on the Cyrinishad, it's apparent, based on the writing, that this is secondhand information and the writer did not actually have access to the Cyrinishad itself. Legend, rumor, but nothing explicitly concrete.

Found on one of the recovered "Missing Pages:"

On Dunamancy: the stones were used to create a sacred vault, in which Mystryl (Mystra) stored and locked Dunamancy away. This is not mentioned anywhere in the book, but the group wonders if she also locked away Shadow magic, or someone else was responsible for that task. Dunamancy of all the magics, while Shadow can be dangerous, Dunamancy is the only magic that can control, negate, and move other magic types. The Creation Stones page is echoed in another sketch on the page. It's unclear where the image is supposed to depict, but the image is essentially the same. The runes, however, are not included on this newly acquired page.

Added by Dhann from his research:

• As Mystra was first creating the weave, she found one school of magic to be too problematic, too powerful, too chaotic to access in the weave and she deemed it too dangerous to allow others to access: Dunamancy. As she tried to include it, she would find the weave figuratively jumping stitches, or unraveling, moving forward and backward in time, changing the actual rules of the world in which the weave was created. It was then she decided that Dunamantic magic must be locked away. It was too fundamentally different and dangerous to be included in the weave.

A Gulthias Tree is a plant infused with the blackest of magic. In its infancy, it grows quietly and is somewhat unassuming. However, at maturity, the tree has many powers and eventually creates a blight in the surrounding area. The tree can create thralls to care for and nurture it. It lives, as many trees do, off the nutrients it finds in the soil and its surrounding areas. However, a Gulthias Tree has been known to fertilize its own soil by attracting and ensnaring creatures in its roots where they are very slowly broken down as food.

The tree produces magical fruits twice per year (more information is needed about the fruits). 

Magic items created from the tree such as wands or staves can be imbued with certain properties from the tree or have been known to take on other evil properties imbued into them. 

According to legend, the first Gulthias tree sprouted from the stake used to slay the vampire Gulthias of Nightfang Spire, head of the cult of the red dragon Ashardalon. The stake destroyed Gulthias, but the vampire's latent magic caused the stake to sprout, growing into a sapling infused with vampiric power. A druid was said to have later discovered the sapling and transplanted it inside an underground grotto, where the druid nurtured the tree until it produced the first seeds from which blights were generated. It is supposedly from this original tree that all other trees have been created. 

Arkhon (Krale’s Remnant):

1. (EP 14, VT- 2:00:08) Picture of a hammer that looks very similar to the one we found. The picture in the book does not have any eyes. Once belonged to Damian Krale, a cleric of Shar. Gifted to him to protect her in the Material Plane. One of the only items on the Material Plane that can craft Shadow Magic into magic items. 

2. (Ep 14, VT- 2:46:22) When Ely quickly looks up Damian Krale's name, she learns Arkhon was Krale’s hammer and then it was no longer his hammer when Shar gifted him with a new weapon. The hammer contained the Shadow Stone which was the source of his power. Krale was the keeper of the Shadow Stone.

3. (Ep 15, VT- 54:40 ) Upon searching for Krale’s name again: (8 Inv Check): Best info she can find that time, she sees his name in a couple of different spots in the book and generally they deal with Shar and the creation of the world. In the section: The Fall of Krale: Damian Krale was Shar’s cleric, her hero. During some battle, he fell, not permanently. In doing so he lost favor with Shar for a time. It was during that battle, or perhaps the ensuing punishment from Shar, or whatever, that he lost the power to access Arkhon the Hammer.  

He was able to regain her favor by spending quite a bit of time gathering or forcing followers. It’s not clear. But for whatever reason, she forgave him and took him back into her fold. She never really liked him much after that, but she did replace his weapon with a mace. A significantly larger mace. The weapon he bears now is called Shadow Stone. And Arkhon once bore that name when he wielded it on her behalf. It appears that any weapon Damian wields on Shar's behalf carries the name Shadow Stone. 

During this time, Ely also adds an update of the hammer and a drawing of it but with eyes.

While wearing this ring, you are immune to magic that allows other creatures to read your thoughts, determine whether you are lying, know your alignment, or know your creature type. Creatures can telepathically communicate with you only if you allow it.

You can use an action to cause the ring to become invisible until you use another action to make it visible, until you remove the ring, or until you die.

If you die while wearing the ring, your soul enters it, unless it already houses a soul. You can remain in the ring or depart for the afterlife. As long as your soul is in the ring, you can telepathically communicate with any creature wearing it. A wearer can't prevent this telepathic communication.

Stone of Golorr:

• (Ep 15, Video Timestamp- 2:54:27) Ely, with Guidance from Dhann, searches the book for the stone (22 Inv [Nat 19 +3 Guidance]). The stone is listed in the book and there is a rough sketch of what the stone looks like. The book talks about the stone being imbued with magical properties. Some good, some bad. It does not mention anything about the stone leading to the treasure of Waterdeep or even Waterdeep itself, per se. And she gets the impression from the age of the entry, whoever wrote this down in the book encountered the stone early on in the creation of the journal. But there is a brief mention, as a note with a star, about the stone being sentient and having a mind of its own and its own desires. There is a warning to be very careful with this stone.
  
  It appears to have an intellect. It seems to be hungry for the knowledge of things. The magic that emanates from it is where it appears to be sentient because of the stone trying to acquire knowledge and secret in one form or another. The book doesn’t say that it is an incredibly powerful, dangerous, or advantageous item, there is just the warning.

There are several sketches of similar rings, each with a pair of pearls. There are seven of them, all created in a single set, each called "The Ring of Beacons." Each ring has a different set of pearls. One has a blue/green pairing, one has a red/white pairing, etc. The ring Ander showed them was white/white. They were supposedly made by Laeral Silverhand herself, for the Seven Sisters. They expand the range of a Locate Object spell.

Elyana does some research in the Per Historia Arcandor Materia for a specific pair of eyeglasses, but unfortunately her searching, even with assistance and a little prayer from Dhann helps her find other types of eyewear. She's fairly confident what she's looking for isn't in the book. Barrett asks what she's searching for, and she responds that she's looking for a pair of strange glasses that she had a dream about. "I've never seen them before, but, you know - this book has, most of the time it has everything so I figured I'd give it a try."

In a short section which is mostly a list, there is a heading called Wands & Rods. There is a rod with a similar description called Fey's Bane. Apparently, the rod can be used to utterly enchant creatures from the Fey. Another rod that seems to have a similar physical description to what Ely saw is the Rod of the Pact Keeper. And, one last item catches her attention with a physical description that also matches, the Rod of Resurrection but seems restricted to healers.
