The Saga of Ankle Biter, greatest hero of The Spine

Before her greatness

My Razeesh's parents, the renowned Bran and Rayla of the Black Ravens, found her when she was only a few winters old. She'd survived for many days weeks by herself after her other parents, Gnome merchants, were killed travelling the Spine. They'd been too weak to fight off the dangers, but baby Razeesh was strong like Ulthgar and was still alive when Bran and Rayla found the remains of the cart.

Maryn the matriarch of the Talons, Razeesh's band, didn't like her at first. No outsiders are allowed in the tribe, stone walkers are too weak to be Ulthgardt. But Bran and Rayla raised her anyway, like one of their own. They taught me her the great tales of Ulthgar, his great strength, awe inspiring bravery, and fantastic feats of prowess. Razeesh was shown the ways of the Ulthgardt, how to follow a beast that doesn't want to be found, how to tell a good berry from a poison berry (she only got it wrong a few times), and how to beat another warrior in a fight. Razeesh excelled at her lessons, and before she came of age Maryn, and the other eldars of the tribe, accepted her as a true Ulthgardt warrior in training, and allowed her to take the test of strength that all Black Raven warriors take when they are grown.

Many joked that I Razeesh was too little to take the test of strength, but she showed them. After her thirteenth winter, she was given her first axe as a warrior and told to go into the Spine and hunt a great beast. Razeesh asked to take the Gnome Warhammer that she grew up with, the eldars initially resisted, but she convinced them when she said reminded them it proved that Gnomes could be great warriors too. Just 'cos it looks funny doesn't make it not a great weapon. With that she entered the Spine of the World, with no food and no water.

Razeesh survived on her own, even though it was really cold, and sometimes she couldn't find any food. She could've gone home several moons before she did, but she wanted to prove herself one of the Talon's greatest ever warriors. Not just any beast would do, she found and dismissed tracks for wolverines, snow wolves, and foxes (some people say a fox is enough but they're dumb). She was going to bring back a bear. It wasn't till the next cycle of the moon began that Razeesh finally found bear tracks. For two days she tracked it across the mountain, till she followed its trail back to its den. She waited till the sun fell, for the bear to return home and go to sleep, before she made her move.

Like a wolf Razeesh stalked softly into the bears lair, making not a single sound. She sighted the mighty beast, and with a roar lept at it with her warhammer! A strike across the bear's face gave her time for another hit as it awoke dazed, but the bear didn't flinch when the second blow landed. It struck back with a paw bigger than her head, and she flew back against the cave wall with a BUMPHH. If she'd taken any longer to recover Razeesh would've been sharing tales with Ulthgar, as she had to roll under its next swing. Her next swing aimed at its back knee, and the bear's leg buckled as it snapped like CRACK. As she was feeling cunning for weakening the bear, she almost missed its next attack. Stepping back to avoid the mighty blow her luck failed her and she tripped on a small outcrop. The bear came down, jaws wide for the kill. Bears will finish off weakened foes by biting their jugular, they can snap a neck as easily as I Razeesh broke Peta's shiny bracelet. With reflexes like a cat Razeesh swung her warhammer up catching the Bear between its two hooks. With a roar she pushed the bear back enough that she could roll out of the way and make one last, mighty swing at the bears head. With one last, final thud, the bear fell defeated.

As it'd been so long since Razeesh left, many in the Talon thought she'd died. They were even more surprised when she came back with the pelt of a bear! Some said she must have found an already dead bear, but she showed them all the scars she got from the fight and most of them admitted she was just awesome. After the wisdoms had seen to the scratches and things, she was asked to finish the ceremony to become a full fledged Ulthgardt warrior. Bran got her bear pelt made into furs for her to wear, and she had the great eagle tattoo'd across her back.

For the next few years, Razeesh mostly helped out with the hunts, unless they were really short on nuts and berries and things then she'd help out with the foraging. With her fellow warriors she helped hunt many great beasts in the Spine, some for eating and some to keep the rest of the tribe safe. It's important to keep dangers away from the tribe so that those who proved their worth when they were younger and the children aren't killed by a roaming yeti or something. Time and time again, Razeesh proved she was as strong as anyone even if she was a little bit less tall.

It was because of these many great feats of strength, that when the eldar's learned of a great threat to the tribe, they accepted her volunteering to go out and find what we need. They say that we will only survive if Razeesh can find a great, powerful shaman. Magic is of course not to be trusted, but its also true that it is of immense power. Sometimes the need for this power is so much, that we have to trust it. She'd heard that the Ten-towns the stone walkers talked of had a lot of people that could be great shamans, and so she set forth into the Icewind Dale where her true story would begin.
