The Historic Counsel Hall, of the Illinois Institute of Technology's main Mies Campus, has been the preferred hub of Chicago's Free Council assembly for nearing three decades. For sleepers it primarily serves as a grand scale classroom and teaching facility for the Institute's School of Architecture and Design, but when not in use for that function it is repurposed as a gathering hall and open forum, even hosting several conventions throughout the year. For the last 9 years it has also served as the home for the Chicago Consilium's annual New Year's Gala event.
