Territorial Era (TE) < 0

Much of history before this era is considered either lost, or too ancient to warrant giving credit to current cultural trends. The Territorial Era is marked by shifting boundaries of landholders. Many races, rather than mixed as seen today, were congregated into their own lands. While some notable territories would gain significant strength, it wasn't until the rise of Highlord Sunvird that a lasting nation would form, culminating in the creation of the Artirian Domain

Domain Era (DE) 321 — 557

The Artirian Domain was, at its founding, the largest known nation in the world. Though its rulers had varying degrees of success, the Domain managed to remain stable for much of its existence. Being separated geographically from neighboring areas provided a good incentive to maintain its own independence, and it quickly rose as a major contributor to philosophy, science, and art.

Towards the latter end of the Domain Era, however, a succession of poor environmental phenomena coupled with ineffective rulers eventually culminated in its dissolution. Seeking to avoid another Territorial Era, then King Theran's three sons decided to neatly divide the Domain into three Kingdoms. They made a collection of treaties known as the Artirian Accords to ensure the end of the Era had as little conflict as possible.

Three Kingdoms Era (TKE) 558 — 784

Thanks to the Artirian Accords, disputes between the Three Kingdoms were few and minor. Much of the resources, population, and land were divvied up proportionately according to each Prince's desire. Sangeria, having been the Domain's seat of power, held on to many major holdings in order to promote stability. Senesia would focus more on international persuits, opening up academies and providing incentive for the Domain's leading minds to congregate. Dortet, having the most diverse geological defenses, would center on trade and the management of forces.

Minor skirmishes would arise as Kingdoms would be ruled by pettier Kings and Queens, but overall the Three Kingdoms managed to exist harmoniously. Trade with the growing Dion to the East would prove extra lucrative, and would prove a good ally as a deterrent to the slightly more aggressive Sadahn Sultanate. Knowledge of continents outside of Ozel would grow, leading to an exchange of people and ideas.

This lasting peace and prosperity is seen as the root cause of why the rise and ferocity of the Tagantan Empire came as such a shock.

Great War Era (GWE) > 785

The GWE wasn't established as its own Era until much later, but 785 is seen as the "official" start date. This was when the Grand Army, ostensibly to provide relief for its emigrated citizens, marched North and conquered Adraria. At the time, the area had become a holiday hotspot for Tagantans, owing to its favorable clime and rich biodiversity. It wasn't until the War began in earnest that scholars started paying more attention to concurrent reports of mistreatment of locals, encroaching businesses, local governmental corruption, and a supposed false-flag plot to provide casus belli for the invasion. 

While others were wary, the Tagantans had assured the rest of the continent that there would be no more invasions. This proved to be a flatout lie, as the moment the dust had settled and others became complacent, a large force of Imperials, combined with forcibly conscripted Adrarians, swiftly dealt blow after blow against Sadah. The concept of the Sultanate being invaded had been seen as nearly impossible, as much of the area is barely-arable grassland, with much of the land being desolate, offering little supplies to a sizable-enough army.

It was then that Dion, Dortet, and Sangeria started offering aide to try and quell the expansion. Diplomats were exiled from the Imperial capital, and it became rapidly clear that the Empire would not stop until the entire continent was under their control. Historians, from testimonies given by escaped veterans, were able to surmise that the key to the Imperial victories was a new metal technology known as 'Mithsteel,' a hardy combination of mithral (a magically durable substance) and steel (a physicially durable substance) that is nearly impervious to most weapons and spells. 

Nowadays, the Three Kingdoms are all that remain of an established resistance. Rebellions in occupied territories pop up every now and then but are swiftly dealt with. Senesia's slow response to the threat, the tenuous line being held in Sangeria at the Goborval River, and the Landing at Norten are currently contributing to a large loss of morale. Thankfully, the discovery of vital resources as being effective against Mithsteel has created a faint glimmer of hope.

The Current Year is 825

  • Landing at Norten

    For the longest time, despite having control over much of the Bay of Trifalson's Eastern edge, the Empire had a rough time utilizing their newly-gained port cities to harass Dortet. Norten's unique location on the shallower inlet from the sea has long been used as a vital lighthouse to ensure merchant vessels would not be surprised by the rocky seabed. Since the war's surge in urgency, however, the lighthouse had been repurposed to effectively mislead or outright blind attacking ships.

    This changed when, under the cover of darkness, a small strike team managed to take control of the lighthouse, illuminating the way for a massive naval force, the likes of which had never been seen in the Bay until then. The city of Norten was quickly overrun, but Hasberg's reliance on the location meant that an equally sizable force was closeby. Though the city ultimately was occupied, roughly ninety percent of the Imperial ships in the attack were scuttled. Knowing that there wouldn't be enough time to retake the city before reinforcements arrived, a great wall was erected to prevent, or at least stall, the Empire's use of Norten as a beachhead. 

  • Sacking of Troriraxos

    Dion was always known as the naval might of the continent. Unfortunately, that matters little when the invading force is equipped with a technologically advanced infantry. Despite several successful campaigns and embargoes, the efforts to curtail the Imperial supply chain via hitting their major shipping ports did little in the long run to delay their inevitable demise. A warrior to the last, Archon Chiro fell in the Sacking of Troriraxos, during which he sailed his burning vessel into the harbor itself, causing a massive explosion that managed to wipe out a large chunk of the invaders while the already-evacuated citizens suffered no losses in the sacrifice.

  • Assassination of Sultan Abhet

    While the march across the Great Plains was impressive and unprecedented, the capital of Sadah did not fall under siege. Instead, an expertly placed Imperial mole managed, despite all manner of bodyguards and magical protections, to administer a simple concoction of nightshade during Sultan Abhet's evening meal. Not long after, the gates to the city opened to receive the occupying army.

  • March on Tujaijal

    Declaring war on Sadah was seen as ludicrous, even if there were plenty of sizable cities on the Southern border neighboring the Empire. The Sultanate knew that the key to keeping its large nation in tact was to provide a large garrison at key points, but its folly lay in the massive technological disadvantage unknown at the time.

  • Blitz of Wejnaoham

    785

    The overall takeover of Adraria took less than a year, but the capital fell long before the final battle. It is said that the entire garrison was pretty much decimated, and the Archdruid was escorted to the Imperial capital to formally cede all power under threat of execution of more civilians who dared to resist.
