Bertrand served as the late King Hanzen's loyal advisor and best friend. It's said that the King's death laid heavily on his heart, and those closest to the Regeant say he blames himself for the assassination attempt getting as far as it did, despite its ultimate failure. He has taken his role as Regeant and as Prince Tizel's tutor in Kingship seriously, so much so that not a single decision is made without Tizel in attendance, even in matters considered too grim for the young boy.
