"Yes papa. I am excited to learn how to fill your shoes one day. I understand that not everything will be easy, but I know I can be like you and Uncle, I can lead our people - I can be good to them as you have!"

-Son of King Gunther the Jolly, Reinhard von Ritter

Noble Upbringing

The Noble Upbringing belongs to those members of the upper gentry of the feudal or classical world. They are distinguished not necessarily by wealth or power (though these often follow not far behind), but instead by birth. Those who come from a Noble background will be the child to some sort of member of that hierarchy, whether a lowly courtier, or a high-up royal family, and anywhere in-between. Noble Upbringings involve court politics, backroom dealings, and opulent luxury. Most important of all, those from noble birth will have parents or guardians who had a keen sense of their own importance, and may have put that importance in their children as well.

Children who grew up in these environments wanted for very little when they were young. There are exceptions of course, cases when a noble clan deals with some sort of low-point, but on an average day, noble children live on a cloud of luxury above the average person elsewhere in the world. As such, these children would be completely unprepared for the hardships present in most of the world - poverty, uncleanliness, hunger, crime, and dull labor are all concepts quite foreign to a noble-born, at least when they first put on their traveling boots. Furthermore, people from a noble upbringing will have inculcated in them from the very beginning a sense of self-importance - whether they choose to embrace or reject this inborn sense of superiority will say much about such a person.

Characters from Noble Upbringings have been left with a Signet Ring - this is a silver or gold ring embossed with the sigil of the character's noble house. It serves a dual purpose - for one thing, it will instantly lend legitimacy to any wax seal which it imprints on, ensuring that those seeing the document can trace its verity to an actual noble household - and for another, it will obviously mark you as a nobleman. While wearing your signet ring, those from a feudal culture will notice, and attempts to Persuade them will gain a +1 bonus to the result.

If you choose the Noble Upbringing, you gain the following:

~Either a +1 to your Strength score or a +1 to your Charisma score~

~A -1 to your Constitution~

~A language of your choice, one taught to you by a parent, guardian, or mentor from your upbringing~

~A Sub-Discipline in every social skill on checks dealing with other members of Noble Upbringing~

~A Signet Ring bearing the sigil of your noble house~
