"I've not the faintest idea what I would do if the tomb fell. I was born in this place, and just early enough to see the destruction of the old world. What has a man like me, in a world like ours, if not faith?"
-Second Hammer of Oerack, Darendak af Oakenrook
Religious Upbringing
A Religious Upbringing is often a very droll and repetitive one. Parents or guardians from a religious background tend to be members of the clergy, such as priests, beadles, or sometimes high officials within a church, such as a high priest or an Archon; they in some cases might be working within the field of theology, but as opposed to theologians of the scholarly background, these tend to be working in an official capacity for some religious institution. Religious Upbringings tend to be punctuated with hours of prayer and contemplation, broken up by hard work, works of charity, acts of devotion, and if they are unlucky, penance. For some, it is a life of the highest meaning possible - for others, it is a dull kind of torture.
A life of religious devotion has a profound affect on those brought up under its shadow. The standards set by religious parents or guardians can be some of the highest children can face. This can often produce children that are devoted to a life of piety and virtue - but it can just as easily produce a truly rebellious youth, raging against the essentialist requirements placed upon them by their affiliated church. Often people from a religious background may seek to make sense of their relationship with the gods as they grow up - either embracing their faith of origin, or choosing a new pantheon to serve. In some extreme cases, children from a religious upbringing can look down upon those not from the faith of their own; when one's life is centered around a singular institution, one can sometimes find it hard to understand why everyone else isn't also tied into it.
Those from the Religious Upbringing have a Prayer Book of Healing, a special book written with several prayers important to the faith in which you grew up. The book is inscribed and enchanted with divine magic, and has five charges, each which can be expended to cast Cure Wounds at 1st Level once, as an action (Use your Wisdom modifier for the purposes of the spell). Once the five charges have been used up, the prayer book becomes mundane, but retains the written versions of the prayers contained within.
If you choose the Religious Upbringing, you gain the following:
~A +1 to your Wisdom score~
~Either a -1 to your Charisma score or a -1 to your Dexterity score~
~A language of your choice, one taught to you by a parent, guardian, or mentor from your upbringing~
