"Ora et Labora brother - work and pray. Those are the words you will need to learn better than any other. The words themselves are easy to learn - their true meaning takes years to fully understand and take to heart. Our God will help you to do this, if you have faith."
Senior Monk at Damien Monastery, Brother Felicius
Acolyte Training
Those who study in Monasteries, Temples, Churches, Cults, and other religious organizations and orders make up those who broadly construed could be considered acolytes. Acolytes train by studying scripture, listening to sermons, acting in accordance with the rules of the religion, and undergoing trials to prove oneself as a full member of the faith.
Acolytes tend to be viewed by others as wise and upstanding members of society. The rigor undergone in study of the divine surely produces a righteous person? On the other hand, the ways of most religions can seem strange and opaque to outsiders, or even common followers of the faith. This air mystery, whether earned or not, seems to surround most acolytes as they navigate through the secular world.
Those who have undergone religious training have a comfort with quiet places and silent contemplation. Most find sitting in a quiet grove for an hour or so to be boring, but to those who have been taught to appreciate such conditions, it is an opportunity to introspect. It is not uncommon for those who have been taught in this way to see the divine in many things that others consider to be mundane. Most former acolytes have trouble making quick decisions, and tend to prefer having time to think well on an issue before making a call.
