"The town watch? The town watch don't know nothin'. Nobody asks around here and nobody cares - that's why the guild chose me to be their fence. If there is one thing that is true in this world, it's that nobody wants to know how the sausage is made."

Butcher and Fence, Benji the Butcher

City Trades

It is said that with the birth of cities came the birth of civilization. Cities have more kinds of careers and jobs needing to be done than any other facet of medieval society, or for that matter, any society. They act as burgeoning centers of trade where all walks of life can seek commerce and opportunity. The variety of jobs found there also ensure that folks with any set of skills or knowhow can set up shop in a city and find patrons willing to pay for their goods or services. Still, the competition, and problems that come with city life, mean that city trades can often lead to hard lives, as much as they do good ones.
