"This is not like the universities of the east. Here, we have no teachers or students, only fellow learners, seeking to reveal the mysteries of the universe. My position is not to supervise or direct that learning, but rather, to listen intently, and gather up as much of it as possible to be stored here in our scriptorium. I also receive similar logs sent from houses of wisdom across the empire. Such are the fruits of free-thinking."

Curator of the Tarro House of Wisdom, Taghi Yaghmaei

Scholarly Callings

There have always been those whose contribution to the community has been intellectual, rather than physical. Dedicating one's life to the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom takes time and effort, and must often be pursued unreservedly in order to produce even small breakthroughs in philosophy and the sciences. Still, these breakthroughs are often cumulative, and with each passing generation, future folks can benefit from the know-how of past scholars. Scholars tend to be highborn, and while they rarely are power players in the political games of feudal courts, they tend to be well respected, and have access to the upper echelons of society.
