The Old Deus are a group of Arisen from the Adamantian court who believe the court itself is detrimental for the continued existence of divinity, and as such vehemently abdicate the act of taking on followers. Beyond that, their views include but are not limited to:
- Divinity should be born divinity. Mortals should not be able to ascend to godhood.
- Deities should not be restricted by rules, but instead by smaller parliamentary councils of which an Old Deus leads.
- Mortal kind is beneath the interest of the gods, and as such, no god or goddess should seek to meddle with the Lower Planes.
- Divinity should maintain their individual orders, and not interject in the maintenance of another.
- Giving boons to followers should be an indirect occurrence. A divine being should never stoop down to the level of a mortal.
Their primary ideology is not just the separation of mortals and the gods, but outright discrimination towards the common races. In addition, the Old Deus are primarily made up of elder deities who have lived for eons, and hold much more power than the average Arisen. The few who were offered a seat as part of the Big Five, in an act that surprised no one, denied the position outright.
Tips for using the Old Deus in your session:
- The Old Deus will rarely get involved in the affairs of mortals. When they do, it is almost always an affair that relates to the divine.
- The Old Deus have lived for far longer than any other deity, and fiercely reject the act of relating to the common races. This is one of the defining differences that separates the Old Deus and the Betrayers.
- Due to their rejection of any mortal qualities, the Old Deus will definitely appear to come off as more "divine" than the other Arisen.
