Further Into the Mine
The centaur camp offered the closest thing to comfort since leaving Estoria. Their reverence to Sydon struck Braz as practical rather than pious. Although he disagreed with their beliefs their heart was evidently pure and their acceptance of his faith was kind.
In trying to keep himself less conspicuous, he allowed Alke to change the colour of his holy vestments. Although he was uncomfortable with this the sensation of altering his sacred robes was freeing.
Being free of his armour for a night was a relief and tending to the sore areas where the straps had been tight for days offered a great release.
The night was marked by the story of the great bear and Braz could not help but think of this majestic creature being wiped away every morning by Mytros as she brought the dawn.
The return to the cave was a return to the persistent danger and flurry of assault. Cockatrice accosted the party as they investigated the upper section of a dwarven bridge. Calliope’s sudden ability to read dwarven took Braz by surprise but her ability with a bow had been demonstrated over the last few days and it was great relief when her arrows shot true to kill not only the horrific birds but also the multiple headed dogs with a toxic froth emanating from their rabid jaws.
The party was able to wear down the creatures in a fight but it was long and took its toll as Braz and Hippofilius were infected by a pox. With the fight over, the infection continued to course through Braz and a wave of nausea overcame him as he staggered to lean against a nearby wall.
