Hippofilius - Session 27

Journal
Darkness.

That’s what struck me first- the utter blackness of this tomb. Even under the boughs of the forests at night there are shadows, textures, glimpses of stars or moonlight that breaks through the canopy. Our lights extend out into that blackness but the closeness of the walls catching it so close makes the distance seem all the more oppressive

In here there is only darkness and stillness, the air tasting stale and unpleasant. The walls are close, claustrophobic.

It is from this darkness the monster strikes.

I call it monster, for there is nothing of the civilised minotaur we have in our friend Braz. This thing stinks of carrion and it’s maw drips with the blood of the creatures it has consumed. It hits us hard before melting back into the darkness, leaving Alke unconscious and Calliope bleeding heavily. Hastily I conjure a spirit of healing to close their more serious wounds, but the creature has already shifted and left us behind.

It is maddening, this cat and mouse game. Only once do we reach an open area where we can surround him, but it is a cunning beast if nothing else and retreats into the shadows once more.

We reach what appears to be our goal- a tomb, marked simply, but as Alke reaches towards it, once more we are outdone and sorcerous creatures disguising themselves reveal the room to be the trap well sprung. Theo’s magic and Helikaon’s blade proved as effective as ever, but as the din of battle fades, I can only hope we can find what we need and get out of here.
