Great Games Notes (#1)
(To remember everything happening during the games, so that she might write songs about it later, Calliope has taken some notes. Or, at least, she has attempted to.)
[Written after the Javelin on the second day.]
Xan is very good at this. In just two days she has come second and first! She let me help her with the Javelin, which I thought she might be reluctant to do considering she is… wary of my magic. But, in the end, that is the event she won her Mithral medal in! She even seemed to beat a record: “Better than Pythor” is what everyone is saying... though I wonder if that is when he is sober or drunk?
Helikaon did wonderfully too, coming in second. He might be a natural swordsman, but his skill with a javelin is just as impressive! Aeneas has been flitting around his head celebrating ever since! If it were anyone other than Aeneas, I think Helikaon might have told them off by now: but he seems to be taking the occasional sideswipes to his face from the pseudodragon's tail in his stride!
Braz though… I think he might be a little disappointed. Javelins seem to be the Pamplaxian weapon of choice, so I think he was hoping to do a little better than he did. But I think the village’s javelin talents lie more in defence and fighting, rather than in sports...

Who says that only the Lutherian’s can drink?! Alke and I and Pholon are SO good at it! I mean, I only came in third… but Pholon is HUGE and Alke has like, thirty heads... so, up against that, I think I did pretty well!
AND I am not even really very drunk at all!
Oh, oh, this has all been so much fun! I wish Versi could be with us. I know I see her every day at the Games, but I can’t actually BE with her and it isn’t fair! I wonder if I could sneak over to the bathhouse...
[Written after the Running.]
I was crutching for Hippofillius today, but we, unfortunately, didn’t do so well. Well, I say that: he certainly did better than I could have running down the track on my talons!
Xan and Helikaon came first and second again though! They really are quite the pair. I feel a little bad actually… between them they really are sweeping the floor with the competition. Not that they don’t deserve their wins of course: they really are putting their all in!
[Written after the Wrestling.]
When this all started, I really worried that Xan would get burnt out: but she has been going from strength to strength! I crutched for her again today, though I really can’t take any credit for the show of absolute skill and power she gave. It was awe-inspiring, the way she moved in the ring. And against Duris no less!
Though I have to admit I held my breath that whole fight... sat in the crutches area, grasping Alke’s hand tightly.
