Great Games Notes (#5)
(To remember everything happening during the games, so that she might write songs about it later, Calliope has taken some notes. Or, at least, she has attempted to.)
[Written after the Rafting and talking with Xan about her past and father.]
Xan is a Nymph! Or, at least, her mother was. Maybe we shouldn’t be that surprised: she is rather striking in a way only someone with fey heritage can be…
But it was only after she stayed underwater during the rafting for several minutes that we put two and two together! Though she actually honestly seemed rather uncertain of if she was human, or otherwise, herself! She told us that although her mother was the Nymph of Mytros Bay, she has never met her father and, in fact, that is why she is in Mytros now: to find him.
And the Dragonlord coin she has is apparently the key to his identity. Or, at least, that is what ‘the creepy guy at the Necropolis’ told her. (I can only assume she meant Damon. I wanted to argue against that characterisation because despite appearances now he isn’t, or certainly wasn’t, like that at all and… ah, well, in any case, it didn’t seem quite the right moment to do so.)
Xan’s coin doesn’t quite match Proteus’ coin - the one that Damon gave back to me - which if I had to guess looks like it might have been minted for Xander. That takes her namesake out of the running as one of her ancestors I suppose. I suggested we might go to the Hall of Heroes to see if we could identify the crest but she insisted that it could wait and that the Games were more important!
I must say it is rather touching that she is so committed to helping us: I can only hope we can do the same for her in return and help her find her father.
