Calliope - Session 83

Song
April 1, 2020
Thrice-Headed Trickster
(Tune: an upbeat shanty.)

Run, beware, watch out, lest you pay the price.
The Trickster beast has a headcount to match
The warning needed in thrice.

A terror of the waves,
Its gnashing form did cause,
Trouble and turmoil across the seas
For those away from shores.

Such the fate of the poet1
Snatched, from atop a ship
Wrestled away, not a match
For the gnashing, clawing, prickly beast
That made the man its catch

The Chosen rushed to save him.
And once by sword, and twice by magic
The beast was bade return.
Yet thrice these warnings went ignored,
A mistake, it soon to learn.

Chasing to its lair across perilous domain,
The seven they pushed ever forward.
Hunted it in its den and slayed it
And claim from it reward.

Run, beware, watch out, lest you pay the price.
Even the trickster beast was no match,
For the warning given in thrice.2

Footnotes

Poor Loreus. Just like me he isn’t one for fighting - there was no contest for which being was stronger when the beast plucked him from the deck. He had only come to answer Alke’s screams… it was a gallant effort though, even if it failed.

Three small Chimeras. It is sad really - the mother may have been terrorising ships, but she was just doing it out of necessity, trying to feed her babies. It is rather tragic when you think about it…the outcome of this trying to stop the death she had been causing was always going to be death…
