Session 141 - “I will devour you…”

The Sphynx

A spell whips around them and steals growth from Hippofilios, Calliope, Alke and Braz. Xan and Theo seem to avoid this fate but the others in the party seem to lose years from their lives in one instant.

Xan steps forward confidently and throws a dorata but it skids past the Sphinx. Hippo-foal-ius, now a small baby is waving his hands around wildly and seems to have conjoured a gargoye, which stands loyal at his side.

Theo disappears from sight. Braz steps up next to Xan, his age around 17 years old. He casts a spell on the Sphinx, marking it for hunting.

Braz is thrown in the air and swallowed by the monster. Before they can react they are transported into a alien world. Blood pooling at their feet, giant brains with hooks reaching towards them and a mosaic of their own faces staring at them in twisted horrors. Brains with beaks peck and claw at their feet.

Xan stabs directly through the midde of it but there is hardly any damage to it even with her perfect aim.

Theo blasts fire at the one at his feet. Xan stabs again through the one clawing at her, it’s tentacle wrapping around her arms and legs. It seems to feel the pain this time.

The Chosn keep fighting this battle but the beasts seem to be almost unstoppable. Alke is restrained and it seems to be a losing battle. Before they can react they are now back at the bridge. Xan rushes forward and tries to hit the beast, but misses. She screams to her friends to attack and they all throw what they have at it. None of them make a hit.

The Sphinx rumbles something out and a spell is cast - Alke casts a counterspell to try and stop it and succeeds.

Calliope casts Dissonant Whispers on the Sphinx - a psychic attack.

The Lord of the Island scratches at Xan and she almost loses her footing, feeling torn to pieces. Xan hears the flapping of wings behind her and feels Calliopes warmth healing through her, bringing her health back up. The Sphinx scratches at Calliope too. The healing doesn’t last and Xan feels a sharp scratch over her body before she is swallowed up into the Sphinxes mouth.

Death and Time

She finds herself sat at a table. Something snaps back in her and she awakes, finding herself sat in front of a feast. She feels compelled to check her quiver - did she lose any of the tital killing arrows? No, they are secure.

Are you sure?

Yes they are secure.

Check again.

Theo appears across from Xan on the table. His face softens and he stares at Xan with a loving and thankful look. The Lord of the Island proposesa a riddle.

“We have no flesh, no feathers, no bone. Yet we have fingers and thumbs of our own.”
