After we got back from the eastern Dome we ran into some Kobolds. Apparently our group has some sort of diplomatic arrangement, which stipulated that we had to provide help in exchange for their continued protection of our home.
Sounds like a extortion racket if you ask me! The Plague Rats, a Waterdeep thieves guild, were infamous for protecting business from accidently catching on fire in the Dock Ward by not setting the fires themselves. These kobolds seem to be running the same sort of scam in my opinion.
Wax and the rest agreed to help the Kobolds gain access to some mine to the south. It was located at a point we have never ventured beyond and we managed to run into a huge giant worm that almost ate Shu. Jarvis and Zazu also engaged the worm directly, while Furet and Wax showered the thing with spells. I attempted to confuse the worm, which worked for a while until it snapped out of it. Thankfully it did not eat anyone before we put it down.
They spent a good two hours butchering the remains for everything from the meat to its shell and acid. I was glad once it was over because I was dead tired and could hardly stand. Thankfully we found a good campsite a mile or so from the battle and I instantly fell asleep.
Our scouting arrangement was easier with Shu present. Between him and Furet we could hardly get lost and it freed up my time to draw some sketches along the way. I would have preferred to play the flute but the sound travels way too far in the darkness. I had been reading that there is a way to summon a animal companion who can scout for you, which would allow me even easier travel through this land.
Once we got to the mine we faced out greatest challenge yet: we had to agree on how to approach the structure! This took longer than killing all those poor kobolds in that hallway in the eastern dome. Finally we reached consensus and through trickery, guile and blunder managed to separate several kobolds from the mine into a carefully laid out ambush that involved laying in the dirt. In comparison to the worm the Kobolds were relatively easy prey and during our pause I stopped to write down a couple of words on paper.
