Pervasive Zone
An area of the Material Plane characterized by its oversaturation of magic. There are multiple types of pervasive zones: Border Zones, Convergent Zones, Null Zones, Wild Magic Zones, and Cursed Zones. However, not all pervasive zones require further classification, such as those that are simply oversaturated with magic without a defining effect.
Depending on the nature and origin of such areas, pervasive zones can be considered dangerous and inhospitable. The largest and most infamous Pervasive Zones lie to the north and south of Asuvia: the Northern Wastes and the End of the World, respectively.
Hot Zone
A hot zone is the name for hazardous pervasive zones that are host to communities of people. The exposure to high saturation of magic leads to often harmful side effects, including mutations and arcane radiation poisoning. These were initially named for the high and sometimes-deadly fevers inhabitants often run after prolonged exposure.
Hot zones are targets for exploitation. As longterm exposure is not something that can be easily cured, people can sell themselves into debt in exchange for regulatory healing to prolong their lives. While being called a debtor is a kinder word, most everybody recognizes that the intended term is slavery.
