The Shallow Heart

Thân Phú Ân is the progenitor of Blood Hunting. He is a vicious disciple of Adachi, evil god of vengeance, who acts upon his own resentment and heeds the call of others who believed themselves wronged. To be cursed by the Shallow Heart is among the cruelest of fates — he will hunt you without pause, and leave you no room for breath. His victims are killed with one thousand slow cuts, the last of which is the killing blow, though the heart. Those who are truly hated by the Shallow Heart will be chopped into pieces instead, and the heart cut out of the body and left beside it.

It is said that he dwells within the territory of Su-an Toan, within the Bleeding Mire.

Legends of the Shallow Heart

Abe. It is said that the Shallow Heart was guided on his path by an angel of Adachi, Abe. In spite of loyally following Adachi's path, the Shallow Heart was betrayed by Abe, and slain. In death, he swore vengeance against this angel, and awaits the day he is able to pay back his tender mercies.

The Bleeding Mire. The Shallow Heart swells within a mire to the south of Su-an Toan. Few dare to wander inside, and those that do find themselves consumed by the man-eating woods. Their desiccated corpses hang impaled on branches, drained of blood for the Shallow Heart to drink.

Payment in Kind. The Shallow Heart has been known once to show mercy. When he was called to the home of a healer who had failed in their work, the healer found him in a downpour. Not knowing who this was, the healer invited Thân Phú Ân inside to offer him shelter and a meal. Amused by their ignorance, the shallow Heart spared their life, claiming only their left eye to pay his pact.
