Iona Dahl's cabin sits at the edges of Leaning Rock, close to the forest and a short distance from the paths to the shoreline. The location is advantageous for Iona, as it helps her maintain distance from the Leaning Rock community. It also works out well for that community, as Iona’s trade in leathercraft often involves foul smelling brines and baths for the hides she processes.
The cabin itself is a simple one room structure, made of stacked logs which have been packed with peat and daub. The roof is thatched and has a healthy growth of moss and lichen, as Iona can’t afford to regularly re-thatch. On the windward side of the cabin there is an extension of the roof, which makes up Iona’s outdoor workshop where she processes leather. Hides and furs in various stages of processing are normally hung in the beams of this workspace, and the compacted dirt floor is kept neatly swept and clear. On the leeward side of her cabin are a few basic meat drying racks, which are normally also hung with cedar boughs to discourage pests.
Inside the cabin there is little to no decoration, aside from a few krokbragd-woven woolen coverlets which hang from the walls, serving as added insulation during the winters. Iona sleeps on a simple bed of woven and bundled bunchgrass. There is a well-tended hearth in the center of the room with a suspended brazier, where Iona cooks and cures meat which she also sells in the market. In the corner of the room is an ornately carved wooden chest, which stands out in the otherwise plain room. Other than this chest, the bed, and the hearth, Iona owns a few large earthenware jars where she keeps her foodstuffs, curing salts and mixtures, and various necessities of life.
Kept particularly tidy near the entrance is a weapons rack, containing a simple compound bow with a supply of arrows, a crossbow and bolts, a hunting knife, and Iona’s only true combat weapon, a standard gladius (Roman style short sword) in a leather scabbard decorated with animal interlace.
