Creatures considered 'Water-type Pokemon' are almost always creatures that have the Aquatic subtype. Under less usual circumstances, they may also have the Water subtype. Creatures considered 'Ice-type Pokemon' are almost always creatures that have the Cold subtype.

They typically, though not always, Water Pokemon have the following traits regardless of a species's individual traits:

  • These are typically Magical Beast types.
  • Swim  The creature gains webbed hands, webbed feet, or powerful flippers, giving it a swim speed equal to its base speed. This evolution does not give the creature the ability to breathe underwater. This evolution can be selected more than once. Each additional time it is selected, increase the creature’s swim speed by 20 feet.
  • Water Mastery (Ex) The creature gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls if both it and its foe are waterborn. If an opponent is airborne or grounded, the creature takes a –4 penalty on attack and damage rolls. These modifiers apply to bull rush and overrun maneuvers, whether the the creature is initiating or resisting these kinds of attacks.
  • Vulnerabilities (Ex) Many aquatic creatures are susceptible to electricity damage.

They typically, though not always, Ice Pokemon have the following traits regardless of a species's individual traits:

  • These creatures can be of any type.
  • Vulnerabilities (Ex) These creatures are always susceptible to fire damage.
