Following the Scouring of Elysai Garvan, as well as the rest of Garvan's Companions, decided to do what many have attempted and none come close to achieving, slaying the Black Devourer. The black dragon Ullaylth has ravaged the lands of the north Empire for untold centuries, and all those who attempted to fight it faced a gruesome death.
Once they located his lair they brought upon magic not seen since, perhaps not ever before either, to shatter the sky and take away the dragon's advantage of flight. Then they faced it in it's lair it had retreated to, protected by ancient magic beyond mortal ken, yet it was an opportunity, for while the dragon was powerful and on home ground, it had nowhere to retreat to.
So the battle was joined, the greatest heroes of the age facing the beast, and while they were mighty and brought all they had to bear they were losing. It was just as victory seemed to be slipping from Garvan's Companions that Ysil leapt at the beast, straight through its firey breath. Yet, even as it scourched him to the bone he didn't relent, flying into the beasts maw and plunging his blade deep into the unprotected flesh that lie within. Even as his body gave in and he turned to ash it was not enough to save Ullaylth, for the blade had sunk too deep and was a mortal wound, piercing deep into the dragon's skull.
There both beast and hero died, and Ysil the Restless was buried for the third time, this time as ashes.
