The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is an American four-engine bomber used extensively during World War II against both Japan and the Soviet Union. Its reliability and durability are legendary, so much so it earned the nickname of "Flying Fortress" during service, as opposed to the USAF's other bomber aircraft which were comparatively flimsy. Its most common model is the B-17G, which features a pressurised cabin for high altitude flights. The United States supplied Oceanykan pro-democrats with B-17s during the Civil War, and since then locals have greatly admired this aircraft. They have been converted to a wide variety of roles including as gunships, flak platforms, transport aircraft and rudimentary AWACS.
