The Loch-class is a very versatile frigate design. Born in WW2-era Britain, it was created to counter German submarine warfare, though the later formation of the Allies rendered this point mute. Soviet submarine flotillas did encounter this type of ship numerous times, though. The Loch-class had almost a hundred individual vessels made, many of which ended up in Oceanyka, where it is used for any conceivable role.
As a frigate, the loch-class is optimised for coastal missions, though it can survive at open seas. When in support of a fleet, more specialised configurations (such as anti-air or anti-submarine) are more desirable.
